Here is the rig in question:
Operating System Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP2 CPU Intel Pentium 4 631 Cedar Mill 65nm Technology RAM 2.00GB Single-Channel DDR @ 200MHz (3-3-3-8) Motherboard Intel Corporation D101GGC (Socket 775) 40 °C Graphics SyncMaster (1280x1024@60Hz) ATI video (Intel) Hard Drives 75GB Seagate ST3802110A (ATA) 40 °C 149GB Western Digital WDC WD1600AABB-00PUA0 (ATA) 39 °C Optical Drives SONY DVD RW DRU-190A Audio Realtek High Definition Audio
What can I do with this? Everything in this computer is old as it was used for a DVR system (my Dad sets up DVR's for security purposes for small businesses). The case is huge so fitting things should be no problem. I'm mostly going to use it for gaming and school work. I'm not really the most intelligent in picking out parts but I do know the motherboard has to go. Any recommendations/places to look?
The entire rig is outdated junk. About the only useful things are the hard drives and the DVD-RW drive. And security DVRs are generally purpose built with proprietary parts. Unless the case that it resides in is an off the shelf part, then you're going to have to buy pretty much new everything.

Would I really have to buy a new case?
