Steam: Games freeze as soon as they finish loading

Hey, I need some help. Just recently, my steam games started to freeze right when they finish loading. The menu runs fine, and [I]occasionally[/I] it will let me play, but the majority of the time I'm met with a frozen screen. I have no idea what caused it but it only started happening a day or two ago.

I've tested it with multiple games, most of them HL2 and EP2 mods, and all of them have the same problem.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Also, when I do get into a game, it is incredibly freeze-prone.

what games besides source games?
is it only source games?
try turning off the overlay

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.90 GHz
2 GB RAM
ATI 5770 graphics card

So far, nothing but source games. I'll try turning off the overlay.

Tried vertifing catche on games n shit?

Fixed it. Turns out it was a byproduct of a virus I had. Killed the virus, fixed the games.
