• Why the fuck is there no REAL Lego game?

How many fucking Lego games have they made where you play as a Lego man and don't even fucking create anything? I'm not talking building fucking block houses. I mean shit like this [thumb]http://wwojnar.com/photoblog/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/IMG_9681.jpg[/thumb] Ever since Garry's Mod 9 I have been fucking frustrated with Gmod's lack of any real competition for 3D contraption building. Ever since I was a kid I have been fucking frustrated with the lack of a serious Lego building simulator. Look at the fucking technology we have now. Why does no real Lego building game exist? A game where you can build huge cities, contraptions, vehicles, etc. without buying thousands of dollars worth of toys and spending half an hour sifting through a giant tub looking for the specific piece you want? And even if that IS too much for current computer hardware, the question remains: Why does Garry's Mod still have no fucking competition? It's on a physics engine from 2004 and worked on by like 5 guys. The physics for some things are fucking weak and it makes certain very simple things (sliders and gears) next to fucking impossible. Some of the main parts of the normal game (Fixed Hydraulics for instance) are just broken (through the fault of the physics engine, not GMod's developers) and tend to spaz the fuck out. Why hasn't some big PC developer come and blown it out of the fucking water? It doesn't have to be a pointless sandbox. Create a puzzle system where you have to create contraptions to solve them. Make an open world game where you create vehicles to complete objectives to gain the parts and resources to build better vehicles and houses. Make a competitive game where you both have to take randomly predetermined parts and make robots to fight each other. Any of these things could make a fucking amazing GOTY worthy game and there are a lot of extremely ambitious developers out there for the PC. Why are none of them trying this?
Gmod is popular because it's fun. It has no competition because it fulfills the needs of a very niche market, and was drastically better than all of the other games that tried to copy it.
I remember that lego mining game, damn that was fun
So like a Minecraft Sandbox Lego version were you control everything like it's Legos? Not a bad idea..
Sooooo Blockland?
Blockland and Roblox are basically unofficial LEGO sandbox games. Roblox has a VERY shitty community, though, so I would check out Blockland first

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LittleBigPlanet_2#Sales Little Big Planet 2 was basically a contraption-level building game with a platformer attached, and it sold like fucking CRAZY. People only think it's a niche market because no one fucking caters to it. Look at the sales of things like Legos. How can people think that there isn't a huge market for people who like building shit? Look how well Minecraft sold. And Minecraft is SHIT when it comes to building actual contraptions. There have only been crappy imitations of Gmod because no one else important or competent has actually fucking TRIED.
LEGO Creator might be what you're looking for as well. You can build official sets and such, but you can't play inside what you make.
Sooooo Blockland?
Does Blockland even have a real physics engine? With moving parts?
Blockland and Roblox are basically unofficial LEGO sandbox games. Roblox has a VERY shitty community, though, so I would check out Blockland first
I only remember a few pictures from their forum, it was horrible
Does Blockland even have a real physics engine? With moving parts?
Somewhat. Roblox has more of a physics engine, but as I said, the community is utter shit. Look at the servers page and you'll see why.
I only remember a few pictures from their forum, it was horrible
It started screwing itself over in 2010 when they overdid the in-game economy and player customization Edited: http://www.roblox.com/Games.aspx Now http://web.archive.org/web/20100722093857/http://www.roblox.com/Games.aspx 2010 http://web.archive.org/web/20080229023758/http://www.roblox.com/Games.aspx? 2008 http://web.archive.org/web/20071009185852/http://roblox.com/Games.aspx 2007
Yeah there's an official lego game just like what you described: [editline]6th December 2012[/editline] I know this because I own it:

Uhm, Lego made a creation tool with every block they've ever made for you to build things with called Digital Designer. And it's free. http://ldd.lego.com/
Second sentence of opening post You didn't even bother to read that far?
Uh, you can build vehicles and stuff too, I remember specifically there's a pre-made helicopter (you can make your own) and loads of car bits. Thanks for not even looking into the game.
There's no actual contraption building with physics though, which if you read the entire OP you'd know that I was asking about.
Roblox is really the only one that fits that, unless you're willing to use Blockland's limited engine. Blockland has little physics for the bricks themselves, and unless you use a mod, when they're destroyed they fall through the map and respawn seconds later.

It's a fairly decent game besides the horrible optimization, wonky physics (which are being worked on) and of course the community. If you ever DO need something, just go into Free Models and promptly leave.
So you mean Lego creator with physics and controllable characters and functions? Sort of like LBP but lego and in true 3d?

If Mojang actually does this from the minecraft engine, reconstruct it to have like 1x4, 2x3, 4x4 lego blocks and so on, and actually make a physic construction model that can be used to do stuff (Like Garry's Mod) so you can operate a vehicle/helicopter and use other mechanics it would sell like hot bread. Also, they could make an interesting plot and a full sandbox mode so people get their money worth. It would be amazing, after seeing the nostalgia people have for the building thing from Lego Racers that didn't really affect your car though. (I tried with 9 rockets boosters, didn't help me at all.)

Maybe it's because playing with real legos is a lot more fun.
Yes, something like this. Building something with gmod constraints is just awful. If you build a vehicle of props, as soon as you stand on any of those props you die instantly. If you use a constraint and don't no collide first the props spazz out and you die instantly.
