How do I connect my Xbox 360 controller to play SMB?

I am currently dumbfounded as I have no wonder on what to do to connect my Xbox 360 controller to my laptop as I wish to play Super Meat Boy but have no recollection on how to install and play with the Xbox 360 controller.

I am running windows 7, I apologize if this is in the wrong section but am confused where to put the thread as it involves technical support and video games.

Youtube videos have been almost no help.

It should automatically use Windows Update to install the drivers. Then it should just work for everything. I didn't have to do anything at all for SMB. Or any game for that matter.

If just plugging it in isn't working, try this: in the start menu, start typing "device installation" and it'll find "Change device installation settings." Open it, click "Yes, do this automatically," and save. Plug your controller back in and it [I]should[/I] automatically download the drivers.
