• I think my laptop is running games worse than it should

My college distributed laptops to students associated with the Game Development program. They are supposed to be powerful laptops, and most of my class have told me their games runs incredibly smooth, even Crysis 2 on DirectX 11. Yet mine runs these games like shit, the best performance I've had was TF2. The only difference I noticed between mine and everyone else's (I had some issues with the first one they gave me) is that my native resolution is 1920x1080 while theirs is 1600x900. My specs are: Intel Core i5-2540M 2.6 GHz. 8GB RAM AMD FirePro M5950 Mobility Professional Windows 7 64-Bit Professional
my native resolution is 1920x1080 while theirs is 1600x900.
well there you go try lowering the resolution to theirs and see what happens

At that resolution, you should make sure you have anti-aliasing turned off since it will have the biggest impact on performance.
how hot does the laptop get? It's possible that it's throttling itself to keep cool when you game.
maybe you shouldn't expect a lot from graphics cards dedicated for CAD and other professional shit

Your GPU is intended for repetitive processing and not something like continuous 3D texture and shader processing

My roommate and I tried playing it on his laptop (Core i7 2.6 GHz, 16 GB RAM, GTX 560M) and it ran just as bad.
