CAPITAL LETTERS.
It was a good mod but it doesn't look like much was improved to be worth the pricetag.
I see they dropped the 2. And didn't fix it.
why in all hell did they slap a fucking price tag on it.
I still don't get why everyone here keeps whining about this, the original was pretty good and the sequel looks like they've done some nice expanding on the existing mechanics. [editline]25th April 2013[/editline]
why in all hell did they slap a fucking price tag on it.
The same reason Natural Selection's developers slapped a price tag on NS2.
no they didn't they turned it into call of duty
no they didn't they turned it into call of duty
How? That seems to be what everyone says and nobody ever gives a reason. How did they do that? All the mechanics are the same, the biggest difference is more maps and weapons and a CSGO-esque artstyle.

Watch they actual gameplay videos, not the staged on the Steam Store.
Watch they actual gameplay videos, not the staged on the Steam Store.
I am, and I'd advise you do the same.
I am, and I'd advise you do the same.
I have watched them and I have PLAYED the game. It's trying to be a "realistic" call of duty.
I have watched them and I have PLAYED the game. It's trying to be a "realistic" call of duty.
I'm watching videos of it right now, explain to me how you think it's CoD. And did you even play the original?
I remember playing the mod years ago; it was laser-like hitbox guns everywhere.
The same reason Natural Selection's developers slapped a price tag on NS2.
Oh no you didn't.
I'm watching videos of it right now, explain to me how you think it's CoD. And did you even play the original?
Yes, I have played the original. All they did was take the Insurgency name and slap it on a CoD-like game. The game play feels like exactly like CoD would if it had larger maps in hardcore mode. Come to think of it it's more like CoD and CSGO put together with name of a fairly good mod's name slapped onto it. But in the end it's still pretty bad and not worth $15.
So it's BF but free except it's not free
So it's BF but free except it's not free
Nothing like BF
ill stick with ArmA.
From watching the videos the only real major differences that I honestly don't like are MP-40 with red-dot sights and fuckery that goes on with the guns (the mod made a better effort as far as attention to detail was concerned IMO). Aside from that, the main gameplay seems to remain the same. Or is it just much worse than that?
The original Insurgency mod played like a modern-day version of Red Orchestra, with an emphasis on tactical realism one could say. Rushing guns blazing into combat was the most retarded thing you could do. This eschews that for sprinting around and blasting on sight with just very low health values, like a Hardcore mode of Call of Duty where running around a corner and shooting first in sheer reaction timing is the name of the game - different strokes for different folks, but just because the games have the same themes, engine, and base FPS gameplay, doesn't mean they play the very same.
TBH I never liked insurgency, it came off to me as a super try-hard version of America's Army 2.8.X with all the wrong things made hyper-realistic. You actually felt like you were accomplishing a mission with a dedicated squad in AA, but in insurgency it basically played out like a much slower version of counterstrike/BF, with recoil, sights, weapon damage values, mechanics, etc that far exceeded reality just for the sake of making it feel "more real".
Isn't this the mod that asked for about 5,000$ for extra maps in their failed kickstarter?
Also their screenshot contest they did back when insurgency first came out and you could win a X1900 (can't remember the exact model) ATI card was a total joke lol Bunch of awesome stuff submitted from a whole bunch of different people using the source engine replay feature with well composed shots, and the winning screenshot ended up just being a random no-effort screencap with the HUD on and everything of some dude looking down the sights lol
The same reason Natural Selection's developers slapped a price tag on NS2.
Except NS2 was actually developed, thought out, and good. And doesn't shit all over its own name.
Except NS2 was actually developed, thought out, and good. And doesn't shit all over its own name.
If anything I'd say NS2 was more of a departure from what the original was about than this is. I mean NS2 at least changed engines in addition to updating graphics and mechanics, this just updates the graphics and mechanics, it's technically more or less the same engine.
I bought this about a month ago. It's alright, it's like CS:GO graphics with Red Orchestra gameplay and the UI of battlefield 3. It was worth the 20 bucks
The same reason Natural Selection's developers slapped a price tag on NS2.
That's because they actually made their own engine, and all from scratch.

From what I recall, this wasn't worked on by any of the people that did the original one because they stopped development on it. This was just made by an entirely different group who used the name and theme.
