Oh christ I though it said releasing march 26th and I was like "well holy fuck that was fast."
wheres my next installment in battlefield 1942/1943
They see good marketing as 60 pre-orders and then selling the entire package a year later for 50. So anyone who gets it on release or early gets fucked by 60 bucks. Someone else can buy this for me, but I am not giving them a cent.
So um, DICE... You gonna re-add the AT4?
How long until BF3 goes offline to make room for BF4?

It uses player owned servers. There aren't any official EA servers for BC2 anymore but I can still play it because player hosted servers.

Like most games you mean? Feel free to wait a year if you so desire.
So they've announced that they are going to announce a game? This is getting ridiculous. Am I the only one who finds this stupid?

Not nearly as stupid as the persistence of the modern warfare theme.

It's to build hype. Like how Sony announced a Playstation event but didn't say anything about it.

Build hype for a game we already knew was coming by announcing that your are going to announce it? Sorry, does not compute.

anyone who waits a year for a game gets fucked for a year's wait while everyone else got to play. Once they finally join in, they find out that everyone who still plays is super experienced and wreck you five ways to sunday before you give up and say the game fucked you for 50 bucks
seriously this attitude is the worst (though I can understand it if you're doing it sheerly out of lack of funds). Paying more for the game when it's new, especially multiplayer games, is worth the experience provided at launch (unless it's sim city, haha relevant joke). As sales dwindle they squeeze it like a moist rag by lowering the price, which is a natural thing to do if they add expansions/DLC content anyways, because people are more likely to get the new content if the game's price is dropped, "saving them money" but still spending it.
The best part is now with steam and origin and others providing direct downloads of AAA games, the cost of selling more units is completely irrelevant. With no consideration for having to burn and ship nearly as many disks, lowering the price ideally can keep the money streaming with, if not add some spikes

Or by that time the player base is dead and all the servers are ghost towns...

Don't you have to use that BattleLog to join a game?
How long until BF3 goes offline to make room for BF4?
Battlefield 1942 still has servers up.

At least it wasn't an announcement of a trailer of an announcement.
Don't you have to use that BattleLog to join a game?
Relevant, how? You have an account to play the game online. BF2 had this, TF2 has this, every multiplayer game released on Origin or Steam or on the consoles has this.
[editline]15th March 2013[/editline]
Personally, I'm pretty hype. I saw a handful of screenshots from the supposed leak and it looks pretty rad. BF3 was pretty fun and I squeezed in ~80 hours despite me being pretty shit at the game. I kind of lost interest around the time Armored Kill came out, so I'm waiting for my next FPS fix that rests between my realistic ARMA and fast fun CoD tastes.
Don't you have to use that BattleLog to join a game?
BattleLog is the catch-all system EA and DICE worked on for basically any new shooter they release. It's not going anywhere soon.

EA tends to shut down their services primarily for annual sports games.
As another poster has said, the servers are still running for 1944, as well as 2, 2142 and Bad Company 2.
As far as I am aware, Bad Company 1's servers have been shut down.

One thing we gotta take into account is how many people were still playing those games when they were shut down?
I have yet to see an outcry on the internet about Madden '09 being shut down. Why? Because the playerbase is used to and accepts that they're going to buy a new release every year.

Nope. At least my PS3 version of BC1 still has multiplayer. I just tested it. It's even got a few players left.

Some games are best a few weeks into launch. BF3 was one of them. I had amazing fun in the first month or so of launch because everyone was learning it and the game was organically maturing as you played. If you were to buy BF3 now and play it, the community knows most of the tricks and the gameplay begins to get stale.

Then I must be thinking of Battlefield: Modern Combat.
Then I must be thinking of Battlefield: Modern Combat.
Yeah BF: MC was shut down I believe. I'm surprised BC is still going myself, BC2 took pretty much all of the players from BC.
I hope the single player isn't as embarrassingly written in BF4 (should they include one), the BC series proved they can write fun, interesting, yet serious stories.

I wish I could say the same, I preordered because I was really into BC2 with a bunch of friends. When BF3 came out it had a bunch of driver issues and was unplayable online. All games aren't going to take off smoothly for everyone I guess.

Add rain, remove helmet. Look's like they're taking on the Modern Warfare model
So over modern shooters, god dammit can't they realize that already?

yeah, modern warfare's model of favoring precipitation over protective headgear
