• Converting mm round numbers to caliber?

Alright, so I decided to finally make some guns for a video game im making, and I decided to base the damages on the caliber (eg 50 cal gun does 50 damage) So I looked online for the ak47 caliber. I got this: 7.62x30mm That did not help. So facepunch gun addicts, can you help me find a way to convert those above measurements to straight numbers?
The 7.62x32 has a 0.312in diameter. Might just be easier to set a base damage for a gun, say your 50 cal doing 50 damage. Then scaling everything else around that.
Frankly, that idea is retarded. By your logic, a .45 would do 45 points of damage, and a .223 (5.56) would do 22.3?
