Facepunch, you've been pretty faithful on good advice. I'm just looking for any possible way to upgrade mainly for gaming.
If it turns out that my MOBO is too outdated, I'll plan on building a new rig maybe?

You're going to need a core upgrade (Motherboard, CPU and possibly RAM) because LGA1156 is dead.
If you have the cash, I'd go with something like:

I'd buy that i7-860 off of you if I had enough money :v:
It'd be good to know the model of your PSU.

This computer was bought pre-built. It's from Xtreme Gear. I, however, added in the new GPU and CPU cooling fan.

I'm, of course, not so savvy, which is why I'm here.
But, Just so I understand, you've recommended the Intel i5 chip because it's faster, the motherboard because it supports significantly more memory, and the ram because it has the bigger GBs?

Wat.
Motherboard/CPU because your motherboard uses socket LGA1156, which has been dead for a number of years now. And more RAM just because. You can reuse your old RAM if you want, but it makes sense not discombobulating the old core so you can reuse it in another box.
Given that Haswell is due to be released this weekend, it really does make good sense to wait now. It's being released on the 4th or 5th IIRC.

aren't they just announcing it the 5th?

I don't see the point in waiting; if anything you'll only get a 5% performance boost. It mostly will only benefit laptops and other mobile devices.
I'd say just go with an 1155 socket board since there's a manillion on the market.
Pretty sure supposedly also great for overclocking told by an Intel engineer. I'd personally wait myself since it's not long away.

There are rumors that intel are soldering the IHS on again now rather than that the TIM that was inside IVB.
Also BCLCK overclocking should be making a return.
I still use that i7 860 myself, OC'd it to 3.36 Ghz. It's a great CPU that doesn't really need upgrading for (the latest) games just yet. I'd invest in in a new GFX card first and then wait for Haswell to be the affordable standard.
Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it.
I'm taking all this information and advice into consideration. I think my best move would be to wait, and really consider a core upgrade and probably just build a new rig from there.
You won't regret it. I had been considering just upgrading my PC a piece at a time but I feel that I would rather just get the latest and greatest instead of constantly playing catch up.

Try 5-13% and way less idle power consumption.
If you already have a good CPU there is no point in not waiting.
Uhm, my apologies for this being off-thread. but anyways:

Before rating this post dumb or whatever else,
I have never bought a Intel CPU for my own, so I have minimum experience on Intel. (I am rather a standard consumer, I never picked a Intel CPU at all)
What is wrong with LGA1156 by now?
My brother believes he has this socket type, and it's a brand new PC by now.

1156 is the first generation of i3, i5, i7 (Lynnfield, Clarkdale). 1155 is Sandy Bridge + Ivy Bridge. 1150 is the new generation Haswell / Broadwell

Thanks for sharing, I might consider to get a Intel build now that AMD got sick of life.
Only thing I REALLY hate about Intel: They want at least 1000 euro's when you get a x6 CPU, while I got a AMD Phenom II X6 for only fucking 130 bucks.
But I guess the consumers have to accept Intel are money bitches these days.

Cores dont mean anything. The amount of Ghz also doesnt mean anything besides comparing CPU's in the same line.
AMD has an octo core cpu for under 200$ but a quad core Intel of the same price can outperform it in games while using 50+% less power:

If 2 good cores can do better than 8. Then why would you even be stupid enough to do 8?
As far as RAM goes, this is the best value on the market. (In my opinion)
