• Repairing a laptop battery pack

I wasn't sure whether this should go here or the Tech support section, forgive me if I've got the wrong number A hobby of mine is tinkering with old computers and such. Learning about them, taking them apart, repairing them, and even refurbishing them. Usefulness, even though some of the machines I fix up do go to a purpose, is irrelevant. This is mainly for my enjoyment since IT is my piece of cake. I was able to get it going so far with a floppy copy of Windows 95. He agreed to let me keep it for spare parts and such. The question I have now is if I was to dissemble the battery from the spare parts computer and transfer over the batteries from the new pack to the old Toshiba battery pack could it possibly work? What would I have to worry about in terms of compatibility?
Getting yourself injured/killed if it's new enough to have a lithium based battery
Fair enough. I might be able to find a replacement pack for it somewhere then. Oh well, At least it still works on the charge. Sorry if this seemed like a dumb question, I was curious to see if it would work. The batteries in the old laptop are NiMH batteries. I've seen something on youtube about being able to replace those with batteries you can buy online. Would that be a safer alternative or would that yield the same results?
If connected correctly, there should not be a problem if the batteries are the same type(li-ion most likely), and voltage. The charging circuit may refuse the batteries though for responding outside of a norm it would expect. The battery watt-hours should also be similar, depending on how smart the charging circuit is. Most should compensate the larger or smaller capacity though.
