That's game production for ya. This happens with basically every game.
I'd rather it was just delayed than shipped with cut content. A delayed game is delayed temporarily but cut content is cut forever.
Big cuts end up as "Cut parts of the game out then save it for DLC" these days.

Nope, they'll just release the cut content later.... For a price. Dragon Age is just The Witcher: Casualized LGBT edition now.

We all remember the From Ashes scandal. If it was going to be in the game but they genuinely didn't have the time to polish it up, MAYBE it's kind of alright, but if it was ready before going gold and then portioned off, that's heretical.

Yes but EA needs their money NOW!

tbh if the content just couldn't get put in the game in time then i don't really see the problem with releasing it later on. Dark Souls did the same thing and it was really good
Can't believe they talk as if they talk on the behalf of gamers when they say cut is better than a delay. What an absolute joke. I sincerely hope they don't fuck up things as bad as DA2 on top of this, by making another relationships managing game.

If it has to be released later on, it should be free. Cutting part of a product just to sell it separately is a cheap way to rip off the customers.

well that's what i mean, if it's just stuff you couldn't get in but liked the idea of. i mean we're all okay with DLC that actually expands and adds new stuff, so i don't see why that should change if the developers got their ideas from cut things. which is why i was bringing up Dark Souls, it's just stuff they couldn't get in, but they liked what they had so they patched it up and released it. i don't get the problem with that.
It doesn't seem like any developer in any context would want to say that they should either ship later or put out a piece of crap.
Cut it, but leave the content as an optional download so that modders can work it into the game with polish. Sort of like KotOR
but cut content is cut forever.
Unless there's a restoration mod.
Unless there's a restoration mod.
restoration mods work on scraps left over among the game files. Nowadays you might just as well delete any unused stuff as it will make downloading the game faster.

I think Obsidian did that as a sorta revenge thing against their publisher for KOTOR 2. They were given really unreasonable time tables and had a really short development period to actually develop the game. They didn't have time to finish and polish all the areas they wanted so they just left them in the game behind stuff like inactive doors and just taking out quest triggers.
I think it'd be really cool if they brought back any cut content later as like a "Free DLC" along side a paid DLC to get people back into the game, get people on the fence to get the paid DLC and look pretty darn cool in the eyes of consumers. But that makes since so no way EA is gonna spring for that.
Gee, EA sure doesn't like quality.
Hahahaha why would you even announce this? Like holy shit everyone hates you for Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 and now talk about cutting out major parts of your game? You're backed by a very large publisher! You should have all the time in the world! Or you could possible stop being fucking ass at making games!
Oh please, EA's a bitch with release dates.
I bet this stage was a doozy for DA2.
You guys realize that every game goes through a period of cuts, downsizing, and polishing before release right? It's like when you get the first cut of a film before it goes through the editing process; sometimes you have to cut content (even good content) if it doesn't benefit the film or it means you can't deliver on time.
This really isn't unusual or unexpected.

uh-huh yeah i understand some of your words
but DA:I looks like an awful sequel, and BioWare has learned nothing

DA:I could very well be terrible; I'm just saying it's unfair to go after Bioware for cutting content in the alpha stage when EVERY game goes through that process.
The stupidity in this thread is astounding
Apparently transparency dosen't get you anywhere these days
one of the endings better have a green explosion thing come out of nowhere and give everyone and everything glowy green eyes and apply a glowy green shader to them
I've got expectations to meet bioware you gotta outdo yourself

Transparency only works when people actually like you.

I want DA:I to be good but at the same time I'm not joining the hype train due to the trainwreck of Bioware known as Mass Effect 3. Bioware can't be trust anymore after that.
And apprantly nobody has mentioned about how Dragon Age Origins had Slade ripped out then brought back as paid DLC. You know...Content THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE IN THE GAME.

The explosions happens at the beginning of the game and it's blue.

I appreciate the honesty but I'd rather they just take their time with the game rather than cut content to meet a deadline.
GIVE ME THIS GAME RIGHT NOW.
