Well it's the best known(and probably best selling)microsoft exclusive title so I'm not surprised.
Eh makes sense. They have a lot of big names making Halo 4.
But it's totally worth it since it's gonna sell like a motherfucker.
Halo 4 looks like it's go to be the best thus far.
not suprising, I think Forward Unto Dawn is also included with that so it would contribute to the cost.
Haha, I know you guys will probably not care, but does anyone else find it incredible that within the span of under 30 years we've gone from this to this? Second pic is rendered CGI or whatever the hell you call it, but nonetheless, yes it surely is amazing.

However you used a shot from the live action trailer and not an in game shot. :P
It'll be interesting to see if it sells better than Halo 3, Considering the new developer and all. Hopefully they'll revisit Halo Wars sometimes soon, unshit-ify it.
The thing that still amazes me is the game is running on the 8 year old hardware that met it's peak 4 years ago and it almost looks and feels like a last gen PC game.
It it indeed is. However you used a shot from the live action trailer and not an in game shot. :P
Regardless, it's all made on a computer, right?
Regardless, it's all made on a computer, right?
Half live action, half CG.
I can see it, Halo kinda saved the Xbox from going to the shitter.
I'm sure 90% of the budget is pure advertising.
Graphics in Halo 4 honestly look really good. I'm very very very damn impressed with how good developers have managed to optimize a game so much, it's really incredible, even if it's only on Xbox 360.
If its a Microsoft exclusive game, put that shit on PC!
I'm sure 90% of the budget is pure advertising.
Yes, because 90% of there $300 Million+ budget was used in marketing of this game. Have you seen this game, and Forward Unto Dawn? The development staff of this game are big names in the industry that don't come cheap. And this game has been in the works for almost 4 years. That's ALOT of money being allocated to development of this game.
It'll be interesting to see if it sells better than Halo 3, Considering the new developer and all. I always hear that, but when I played it I enjoyed it; however, I've never played any RTS games before or since. Is it not that it's shit, but more like it's bad in comparison to better titles?
I cant remember the exact details but they said its going to run at native 720p or something like that.
Native 720p, Nvidia FXAA.
If its a Microsoft exclusive game, put that shit on PC!
I bet you guys said the same thing for the release of Halo 3... Most likely Microsoft wants to keep it as a console game.
I bet you guys said the same thing for the release of Halo 3... Most likely Microsoft wants to keep it as a console game.
Yeah we probably did, considering Halos 1 and 2 were both on PC
Regardless, it's all made on a computer, right?
In that case a better comparison is the visual effects of, say, 1982 Tron compared to the Halo 4 live-action picture you posted. That's an easier comparison of 30 years difference between then and now than the one you made.
Native 720p, Nvidia FXAA.
How did they optimise that? The cards are like 7 year old ATI GPUs
How did they optimise that? The cards are like 7 year old ATI GPUs
Short answer. Black magic and alot of money. Proper answer: It's on the software and engine side of things.
I'm betting a large bump that took it over the edge of the budget of the other games is from Forward Unto Dawn live-action series. Microsoft has done live-action before but not at this scale.
Yeah we probably did, considering Halos 1 and 2 were both on PC
First off, completely different cases. Halo:CE had no Xbox Live (as it hadn't been made yet for Halo 2) so putting it on the PC was the right thing to do to extend its lifetime/give it multiplayer. Halo 2 PC was released when Live for Windows was just announced so they ported it, rather poorly, as an incentive for the program (as well as get people to Vista). This was also a year after the 360 was released; people weren't going to buy old Xboxes just to play Halo 2 since they could just get a 360 for that anyway, so they did the PC port. After that port got horrible sales (because it was late as fuck and because the developers did little to make it appealing), it seems that Microsoft has strayed away from any more PC versions, at least until the next Xbox console is released. But it might be too late anyway for Halo 3, ODST, and even Reach potentially by the time that happens.
