What would cause an HP Pavilion laptop to… A) Start up run for a few seconds, then shut down, then start back up, and continue to do this until unplugged and the battery removed. B) Start up, but no monitor, (doesn’t show up even when plugged into desk top monitor) C) Start up, show screen with HP logo, and all the F-number commands, and stay there. Problem A has happened before, but all I’ve had to do is leave it for an hour and it would be fine. My second question is why that happened. I’m running vista, though, it has never caused any problems before. I did however blow dust out of the fan and clean the screen before these problems started happening. Also, I can’t get onto it to use it, so I can’t run any programs or check for errors. Does any one think they know what’s wrong? :ohdear:
What model is the laptop? Its sounding like the GPU is on the fritz, is your warranty still valid?
What model is the laptop? Its sounding like the GPU is on the fritz, is your warranty still valid?
warranty isn't valed any more (I think), I'll find the model later, when I get out of school
Well, which Pavilion are we talking about?
HP Pavilion dv2560ea I believe, I'll recheck when I get home.
Well, the Pavilion Laptops are known for having serious overheating problems, so download HWmonitor and check your temperatures.
how am I going to do that when I can't even get the thing to be functional?
Oh snap, you said a few seconds? O.o Sorry, rate me bad reading.
Check your BIOS could be that. Maybe its just worn out, how long have you had it?
um....bout' 2 1/2 years now I think. but it gets a lot of use. school, gaming, contacting friends, movies, ect.
Sounds dead I'm afraid to say :(
FFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- but yea, I sadly think thats true.....though....there is christmas..... :P also, whats better a laptop or a desktop?
There's advantages and disadvantages to each but personally I hate laptops. Desktops are better for upgrading and replacing single parts if they stop working.
Although, admittedly, laptops are more convenient if you take it to school a lot or to a friend's house. I would still get a desktop.
yea, same thought. I am writing this from the computer in question, left it for 2 days, and it started, though it took it a good 15 mins. All seems to be running fine, I'm gunna try playing a game and running some programs, i'll run anti spy checks and what not tonight. any thoughts on what it is now?
Care to check the temps with HWmonitor, now when it works?
yyyyyyea.....um, I just turned it off to try something. >< guess what? its dead again.
It can be a variety of things, but it's probably hardware failure.
I had a Dv2000 myself. The motherboard fried itself. Then i bought a DV5, the goddamn screen managed to fry itself. And the GPU used to get as hot as 105c. Don't buy Pavilion PC's. They fry themselves. [editline]11:27AM[/editline] Oh, yeah, my friend tried to overclock the DV5. I've never seen him since.
sigh... best gaming desktop for the price anyone?
sigh... best gaming desktop for the price anyone?
Budget? You going to build it?
yea, still have to see what I have to work with as a budget though
Although, admittedly, laptops are more convenient if you take it to school a lot or to a friend's house. I seriously hate how when people ask what kind of laptop they should get, you always have people saying, "HURRF, GET A DESKTOP INSTEAD!" It's almost like they don't understand the purpose of a laptop. I bring my laptop everywhere. I can't do that with my desktop. The tower weighs at least 20 pounds.
I just got myself an ASUS G60VX-RBBX05 and I love it. It is not a desktop but it got great reviews, and is a power house.

Stop trying to cause an arguement.
welll...still not sure on the budget. Could you guys just point out the best parts? I'm looking for something that will run every thing nice and pretty. games I'll be playing: STALKER, any source game, fallout 3, oblivion, games like that. EDIT also Crysis
if it starts up again, post HWMonitor temps and get a flash drive/external HDD/DVD to back up all the files important to you (just to be safe..) I know his hard drive isn't going, but it would spare him the trouble of having to pull the hard drive out of his laptop and put it in another one to back all of his stuff up onto the new computer.
