Loud noise and freeze at Win7 login, doesn't occur in safe mode.

Title, unsure where to go from here.

3 regular reboots got this result, safe mode didn't. Does that mean its software and not hardware?

I used restart from within safe mode and it made it to the login in regular, but froze again at "Welcome"

I don't hear the sounds anymore, no sounds anywhere. Wonder if it's a sound driver malfunction?

Removed my dads cd from the DVD drive and now it's working.

Can that really be a cause? Or is this just lucky coincidence?

Is there a way to copy an entire computer to an external Hard drive? My ext. is bigger than my actual HDD so I could probably reformat after copying files

Since you are reinstalling Ctrl + A then Ctrl + C should work.

Could export the registry to avoid having to reinstall everything but that would probably put you back where you are and would almost certainly break [I]something[/I].
