• New heatsink/fan or just new thermal compound?

I'm helping my friend with his hot running P4 Prescott 775 socket cpu. He currently has his cpu with OEM heatsink/fan, installed over 5 years ago. I'm sure at least part of the reason temps are climbing is due to poor thermal contact after all these years. However, he's willing to spring for this Rosewill. Or he'll just buy some Artic Silver and have me reinstall his original heatsink/fan again. Since I've never used Artic Silver w/OEM, I'm not sure if there would be a better result than just buying the new cooling solution and using the pre applied thermal compound. He won't buy the AS and new heatsink/fan. Any thoughts or experiences in this?
just get a freezer 7 pro V2
There is absolutely no point in spending $15 on a heatsink. Either get a Xigmatek S1283 or Tuniq TX-4.
