"Metal Gear Solid seems like the kind of game series that would translate perfectly into a movie" I don't know about that. You'd either confuse the audience, or make all the fans angry.
I feel like MGS would be better of as a TV show. You're talking like 20+ years of lore and story.
You could make a movie about Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid 1, or Metal Gear Solid 3. Any other Metal Gear game has too much back story that the main story critically hinges on to make it a standalone movie in a way that isn't going to piss off every Metal Gear fan. Really tho I wouldn't mind a movie about The Boss and her Cobra Unit during WW2. That shit could be dope and they'd have a lot of freedom to do what they want without pissing off fans since all we really know about The Boss during WW2 is she was a badass and at some point had a baby with The Sorrow :v:

The story is too long and detailed, even if you were just to take MGS1. It'd end up as a watered down, standard action film. While if done well it would probably be a good action film, but it'd also be a bad Metal Gear.

I think a lot of concepts in MGSV could make for a good movie but I don't think MGSV itself should be adapted. Bitter old men stinking their fingers in foreign lands, peddling death and destruction all for the sake of revenge sounds classy as hell.
But MG is already a movie. It would translate very poorly to the big screen imo. Even MGS1, with its obvious datedness, wouldn't look as good as the game.
I remember seeing some live action MGS movie at one point. It didnt make a lot of sense but I didnt think it was too bad for what it was
