I always thought Media Center was pretty useless, since my TV tuners are never supported, and come with better DVR software anyways. I can also live without the Start Orb/ Start Button, since it's just filled with duplicate shortcuts of what's on my desktop and dock. I never really use them.
What Windows features can you do without?
MSN
also, windows 7 libraries. i think its stupid. they should let you turn that off.
and "recent places/files", as i almost always just use the program to open the file, and it usually saves the location. and i mostly select places from the sidebar in explorer, anyways.
and IE. obvious reason.
I agree with 7's Libraries, they keep dumbing down Windows so fucktards don't mess things up or get lost, but technical people like myself just find it annoying, and somewhat insulting. :/
All of them. It's not like there aren't alternatives.

yea like they could just have a button that says "click me if you think libraries are stupid"
because i don't even use the public documents folder, so its a big waste.
its like putting a folder inside an empty folder.

Yes. XP had great folder system and simple networking that worked. Now we have stupid useless crap like Public forlers and "Homegroups", as if we don't know how to share folders over a network on our own. :downs:
i figured out how to remove libraries!
http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-support/6762-remove-windows-7-libraries.html
works perfectly!
after you remove them, if you pin explorer to the superbar, it just sends you to Documents, instead of libraries.
also removes homegroup i think.
also, idk even what homegroup is for? isnt it like Workgroups on vista and XP?
EDIT: just add documents, and the other folders to "favorites", and it works like vista
or your user folder.
I actually made my "Libraries" icon a shortcut to My Computer, while keeping it looking the same. :)
I made a second shortcut to my User folder right next to it.

wait, how do you do that?
wait, how do you do that?
Just make regular shortcuts on the desktop with whatever icon you choose, and pin it to the superbar. :)
I also could do without Wordpad. AbiWord is fifty million times better as a "Word Processor", and it's portable, and even cross-platform. :keke:

ohh...
do you know any way to change the default folder explorer opens?
like in vista, if you just ran an explorer window, it opened Documents
in 7, it opens the libraries.
and when i pin my documents folder to the superbar, it just pins explorer

No idea, i only use 7 on my laptop, and haven't messed around with it too much beyond net surfing. vv

lol..well its on my main computer, and it really annoys me that it opens into libraries default because i don't use libraries.:butt:
do you know how to do it on vista? i'm sure its not too different...
[editline]11:32PM[/editline]
figured it out, just right click explorer, and in the target field, after %windir%\explorer.exe add: /n, /e, C:\%userprofile%\Documents
it should look like this:
%windir%\explorer.exe /n, /e, C:\%userprofile%\Documents
it opens explorer to the documents folder.
you can change the location to something else though.
[editline]11:33PM[/editline]
also, it works as far back as at least XP
vista.
I hate Vista compaired to 7, it just seems so bloated in comparison. Probably the memory management and kernel optimizations... And I haven't defragged my Vista install in the 7 months I've used it. :v:

Windows 7 is installed on my laptop, and it found drivers for both my built-in GigaByte AirCruiser Mach G and my D-Link DWA-643 Draft N ExpressCard without even going online!!! :D
I was very impressed. All I had to download was video drivers, which Windows update found for me. :D

My mom is running a 3.0GHz Pentium 4 system I made her for her birthday a few years ago. 1GB DDR400, and onboard GeForce 6150. It's an amazing internet machine, but not much else...

Windows Vista: Pretty much everything in the "accessories" folder in the start menu, except for the calculator and system stuff like the command prompt. And everything in the "games" folder. And most of the stuff piled at the top of the Start Menu (Windows Calendar, Windows Contacts, etc). And "Help and Support". And "Recent Items".
Windows 7: See above. Thought they did a good job paring down the pile of programs at the top of the Start Menu. Libraries... meh, I don't really care. Just something new to get used to.
Windows would benefit greatly from having a way to uninstall (or not install in the first place) all the built-in programs you don't use.
Why the fuck is everyone shitting on the libraries? It's amazing if you have your data on a different disk.
I keep all my data on a separate partition. With Windows XP it fucked up with saving some times so I had pictures both in My Documents/My Pictures as well as in G:\My Pictures.

Some people don't like easier to use folder aggregation.

Vista and 7 both have the option to change the location of the Documents, Pictures, etc folders. That's what I use, Libraries aren't really necessary.
Edit: not saying they're bad or anything, just that I haven't had much use for them.

I did that once, it almost fucked up completely.
If you have a separate partition for data you don't want Windows to depend on it.
the gadets on vista. they should fix vista becuse it slows down the comp

It's not about location. It's about have multiple folders throughout the system and being able to see all the contents of the multiple folders in a central location.

I've never had a problem with it, of course I was careful which ones I moved. I didn't move the entire "username" folder since it has AppData, I'm sure that would have broken a lot (if not all) of my programs. I just moved Documents, Pictures, etc. What happened when you tried it?
UAC even though it's easy to disable. (especially in 7, no restart required like in Vista.)
Windows firewall asking to allow all games I play, at least the first time.

I realize that, I was just saying that Denzo's issue seemed like it could have been fixed just as easily by moving certain special folders. In my case, I've gotten used to keeping all of my data in the special folders so I have nothing to add to the libraries.
Edit: broke mah automerge
