Hey FP, Basically looking to upgrade from a 555BE, so tell me what you think is the best processor to pop in an AM3 Socket. Phenom II 980BE Overclockable to 4.5Ghz (outperforms stock 2500k apparently) Stock clock at 3.6GHz Quadcore Phenom II 1100T 6-core Turbo-core feature lets you run at higher clock speeds when 3 cores/less are used.
Unlock the 555BE and see how much you can get out of it before deciding to upgrade. Mine's a stable quad at 3.8GHz, and I haven't even tried pushing harder than that. With a good cooler you'll probably get 4GHz and possibly over. Also, what Shadaez said. First see if you can unlock the 555, then go for Sandy Bridge or wait for Bulldozer.
Don't buy a CPU that's as much as a 2500k for a dying socket

Then go wait for bulldozer, or go sandy bridge. I'm guessing the reason you want to go with AM3 still is price, but honestly it's better in the long run to just hold on and wait till you can go for those. The 555 isn't that bad of a processor considering it's a dual core...
Just wait
