Are war machines the best bet for a peaceful world?

Think about it. Artillery, firearms, tanks, etc can tip the balance of power in favor of whoever can utilize them the best. That means the ones who want peace just need to become proficient in the art of war, and when the war is won, use their power for good. Of course it gets more complicated than that, what with corruption of power and a general inability to sate the masses. However, in theory, can't military might used to make all the ne'er-do-wells play nice, so long as the people behind the gun are those of pure heart?
Babby's first philosophical thought, here. Also, it's late as balls and I may not realize how simple I sound saying this.
Controlling with fear isn't the best way to obtain world peace, unless there's a crazy dictator who wants all the pants in the world.
Got any other options?

Ask everybody to be nice? If we could just get everybody on the same page I'm sure we could reduce some conflict.

The problem is, people don't listen. The voice of the gun is the only thing that everyone will listen to, without fail.

What if the person speaking with a gun is unreasonable? Being the strongest in the room is no measure of correctness or even peace.

Of course, but this is assuming we can get the necessary weapons and training to the peaceful ones, to make sure they're the strongest.
I just realized we're talking in caveman terms, holy shit.

To resolve that, people need to be educated, which requires communication. We have the greatest communication system ever created, which has already reared its head and deposed several dictators. With greater transparency of the leadership (willing or not), which we've already seen, corruption can be limited. Whether this will result in a steady equilibrium of peace or endless coups is up in the air.

Yeah that's a much less volatile option.
I'd say Peace Machines are a safer bet

what's the difference between a man conquering for the benefit of his country and a man conquering so that other man won't conquer?
Besides, the more you arm, the more others will arm, you get cold war with a massive resource drain.
War machines = War possible
No war machines = War not possible

If he did, he'd really need to flesh it out more or it would be locked pretty much instantly.
it was already discussed. Whether MAD tactics/atomic bombs were good for peace-keeping

You can't un-invent something. If you get rid of all your war machines, the other guy will be the only one with them.
The solution is therefore to agree to disarm together, if need be, have the other party bring in the disarming squad and you do the same for them.

But what about the secret stockpiles that I have in my evil genius bunkers?

We send the right disarming squad.

Well I'll send my disarming squad to disarm your disarming squad before they can disarm me.
War machines = War possible
No war machines = War not possible
Impossible, because when all the current war machines are gone, the ones left become the new war machines.
A mixture of both, mostly education would be good for peace, seeing how violence comes naturally to us, the best we can do is have everyone educated properly and be at peace with each other for the most part. Having every nation solidify into one would do wonders for all the built up tension in the world.
It is a human being's nature to make war with his neighbor. To deny this fact is to deny nature itself. It's not an admirable trait, it's not a trait I or anyone really likes, it's just a fact of life you have to deal with. No amount of education will stop power-hungry men from trying to take over the world. It's a sad fact, but I agree with the OP, the only way to be "safe" or really "safer" is to prepare yourself for the inevitable.
All I need is sex, drugs and hell of money

It is, but it's much, much lessened by groups. Look how people in one country are much more friendly to each other than with foreigners because they're in the same "group". Just expand the people's notion of that group to everyone on Earth.
The only way to achieve world peace and to sustain it we would have to get rid of many things people cling onto such as religion or culture.
Globalization might help achieve world peace,i doubt it would last long though...
Yes, because its always good to have some sticks lying around if ever needed, plus military research leads to increadible breakthroughs in every sector
