There's no context to where the texture is used. If it's something you walk past and can stand a foot away then it's horrible. But most likely it's a texture seen at a distance where you don't need that extra detail.
I actually enjoyed crysis 2 a lot. In terms of a sequel, crysis 1 was 40x better. But in non sequel terms, it's a legitimately good game.

I always think it's a shame how on even highest settings lots of games never improve those small detail textures, I realize it's expensive to use high-res textures for small insignificant things but if your PC can handle it, let it be in Ultra, or as an option. You get so close to those small things and their pixel-ly textures just break immersion for me.
Maybe you should ban it like you did to the battlefield 3 mod for being "too colorful".

because its a tiny detail prop and making ultra high res textures for every one of the hundreds of little detail props scattered about the map would be ridiculous and unnecessary. you have to keep some stuff cheap to make everything else good looking. maxing the quality on everything imaginable is best kept to mods because shipping a game that completely ignores that optimization is prob not a good idea

Where's your proof, motherfucker?
The problem with making texture sizes too big is that 90% of the time you'll be viewing a lower resolution mipmap and you'll be wasting incredible amounts of vram.

Well they do have to keep them small (most people won't download 40GB of game to have everything scaled down because they can only play on mid settings) and as it was said you have to load everything on v-ram even if you don't get the actual full res texture rendered, which means you need tons of v-ram, more than most middle-end graphics cards have.

I thought the hand-holding 'snipe here, ambush here, etc' hints were awful and the super-heat-sensitivity-vision mode was too easily abused
But I had no issue with the textures

even if you don't know anything about video games it should be fairly clear why you don't load up an already 10~ gb game with high res textures for each and every little model in the game, which there can be hundreds of

imo not really, i find that a lot of the time texture pack textures are TOO big and things look really weird and unnaturally crisp in comparison to everything else. i like my eyes to have some relief from photorealistic pictures plastered onto little shapes every once and a while

People on BF3 were using a file injector that could also be used to change things like weapon damage and accuracy due to dice being retarded and making those things clientside. The tweet was also a warning. They won't hunt you down for it, they were saying don't be surprised if PB catches it.
In crysis 2 (a moddable game) it's just a texture reskin, like reskins in TF2 or other source games.

Why do you need evidence? Don't you know how to come to logical conclusions?
A low-res image is smaller in file size than a high-res image. Therefore, more detailed textures will increase the size of the game to be shipped. This is an issue for digital downloads as it means more bandwidth. This is also an issue for physical distribution because it means more disks.
