• BF3/RO2 build, $900 ceiling
    20 replies, posted
Hey guys, You might recognize me from a few earlier threads, but I'm finally ready to order the parts. 900 dollars is my absolute ceiling, but I'd like it as cheap as possible. I'd like it to run on high settings for BF3 and RO2, max if possible at this budget. I'll mostly be playing high-end games, and I can probably skimp a little bit on the hard drive. I'll need all an all new monitor and speaker set, the only thing I can reuse is my mouse and Windows 7. (Also, a quick note, which version of Win7 do I need, 32 or 64 bit?) I live in america. Newegg.com is the preferred site. Sorry if the OP is a bit skimpy, but I know next to nothing about computers and I really can't reuse anything , seeing as I only have a laptop at the moment. Thanks in advance, guys.
I'm not really able to fit in more money for speakers unless i drop down on the case or gpu, I'd rather you use some headphones until you got some money to spare for a set of decent speakers. For this 32bit is just fine, but you'd be better of with 64bit nonetheless.
I'm assuming the above post is a bad build, from all the dumb ratings? I can afford to go a little lower, I definitely don't want to go 900 dollars at all. 900 dollars is the absolute maximum, I literally cannot go higher than that. Thank you for trying, though. Does anyone else have an opinion?
oh oops, didn't even notice that i went above 900 dollars, silly me. Drop down to a 6850.

[editline]dad[/editline] Shit, which one do I pick? cheapest sapphire one was what i had in mind, should drop it down to almost exactly 900 not a lot else that you can drop down to, you can look for a cheaper case, and there is more then likely a better deal on ram
Okay, thank you. Is there anything else I can get cheaper, without much effect to gameplay?
You can drop down on the case, harddrive and switching to 1333 ram wont give you a significant performance drop either. Main components is the cpu and gpu, and I wouldn't suggest going lower then a 6850, and especially not an i5 2500k.

As for RAM you could just as well get these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139659 No significant performance loss, one or two frames per second within games at most. As for a harddrive, i wouldn't really vouch for this harddrive nonetheless, but when you're at a 630 dollar budget and need a harddrive then you can't really go for a spinpoint. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145299 Alternatively you can just go for a smaller monitor. I'm not literate within cases, I've only used a handful and my opinion will solely be biased. The storm scout is great tho, I wouldn't really drop out on it personally.

The motherboard you gave is out, is there another I could use for about the same price, maybe even less?
For less there is none really, unless you want to sacrifice sli compability, but this is a great deal tho http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130621
I just realized I'm without a sound card. Any suggestions? Also, I'm almost finished with this build. Are any of these items incompatible: [editline][/editline] Also, once again, is there anything I could skimp on? I'd like to have a cheaper monitor that's less wide, but also comes with attached speakers like my current one. Thanks in advance.
Most current motherboards, if not all, have built in sound cards, check for that under the details tab on Newegg

[editline]8th December 2011[/editline] Looking at this monitor, does it look like a good buy or not? It's 70 bucks off, and it's pretty much the same as the ASUS one. Anyone have experience with this brand? -snip-, I found a better keyboard. [editline]8th December 2011[/editline] FINAL BUILD What do you guys think? Good? I checked everything out, looks like it's all compatible with the slots and everything. Thanks for everything guys.
that image is too small to read very well, but from what i can discern it looks good
just post a list of the links, I just cannot tell what half of that is
Get a 6870 instead, it's worth the extra few dollars! I have this Powercolor 6870, it's cheap, has a 20$ MIR, and it maxes out BF3 and Skyrim on ultra everything at 1680 x 1050. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131378

I made it a bit bigger, took Doctor's advice on the video card, and added a DVD reader/burner. Thankfully, it's all under my budget. Also upgraded the RAM because it was only 20 bucks more. I know I've said it a lot, but thank all of you for your continued help.
