It honestly would have been really nice if there was just a "press autobuild, feed resources, and then fuck off" button to the settlements
they look garbage unless you put a lot of time into them and not everyone wants to put that kind of time into a mostly meaningless feature that's supposed to be optional anyway.

The settlements absolutely killed any replayability this game had by being such a bitch to set up and maintain.
Its really easy to crap on settlements, but it's also one of my favourite features. I think it very much depends on the person, and it's very hard to straight up say that it's an awful feature.
This mod is pretty awesome though, it's given me inspiration for my own buildings, which is cool.
Imo, the settlement system should be an end-game/late-game thing. The sort of thing that you only really get to do once you've ended the main story line- Then whatever faction you sided with in your playthrough you then get to expand by organising new settlements for them- And a little strategy game would unfold against the remaining factions on the map- or whatever.
It was dumb to force the player to involve himself with this system when it was only half-finished.
I'd hate the settlement system less if the quests to unlock the settlements were more than "we're being harassed by x at x location" and had actual quests tied to them.

I thought it just works though?
I don't see the problem with settlements. Skip pretzel gravy in Concord, optionally pick one so you have a place to dismiss companions to (if you plan on using a companion other than dogmeat and don't want to skip the red rocket)
After you skip those two optional encounters and start doing stuff with Valentine the only real time you need to touch the system is when you're building the plot devices for the MQ or the robot crafting station in automatron
