No it's not illegal, but it sounds pretty damn impossible. CBSA may deny you entry because they'd be worried you'd die in the mountains.
You can hitchhike quite easily - I've had friends that made it from Vancouver to Dawson City - but I'd warn you that certain parts (notably the highway of tears) aren't exactly too safe. Not mainly from people, mind you. Wildlife and the elements are more of a threat, and if you aren't prepared, you shouldn't be going.

Walking the Coq can take a week on its own. Driving from Vancouver to the Yukon border can also take up to a week in good weather. You're looking at several months of walking.
