Filesonic has disabled its sharing functions, allowing users to access only their own files.
I figured this was because they're terrified of getting arrested or whatever, not as a protest.
I figured this was because they're terrified of getting arrested or whatever, not as a protest.
Nothing in the article suggests that its a protest
I figured this was because they're terrified of getting arrested or whatever, not as a protest.
that's because they're terrified of getting arrested or whatever and it's not a protest
Huh. I could've sworn I read the word protest in there somewhere. yeah, I'm an idiot, nevermind. :v:
I just found out today that Fileserve has followed suit, and no longer is a file sharing site. Looks like the US government really can control the internet now, even without SOPA/PIPA.
This is exactly what they wanted, make an example of megaupload and all the other file sharing sites shut down in fear.
Lemme just paste this in from the other thread before this one goes to shit too. [release]THE GOVERNMENT ARE NOT DOING THIS. THESE WEBSITES ARE VOLUNTARILY TEMPORARILY DISABLING THESE FEATURES.[/release]
They're doing this because they know that they are in danger of being arrested. I wouldn't call it "voluntary".

They're controlling it through fear tactics.
Did piracy just become a crime or something!?!?1
The government successfully spooked the internet by suddenly shutting down Megaupload, it's essentially the same thing. I dunno about you guys, but I'd rather have some of these websites shut down from fear tactics than have the entire internet crumble from an enforced law.
Did piracy just become a crime or something!?!?1
The link in your title is broken.
Yeah, I've noticed that several services started a similar policy now that the topic has gained heat: "For the moment you cannot retrieve any files unless you're the original author" I wonder for how long this will go. I wonder for how long the sites can endure that blackout financially and whether there'll be a shift of big ones going down and being replaced by new sites. Oh boy that would mean a lot of re-uploading and a big loss of information (since some stuff can't be downloaded in order to be mirrored elsewhere). Especially old and obscure stuff, for obvious reasons. What a shame. But I may be jumping into conclusions here.
