• Why haven't they merged media programs yet?

It seems like one of the most obvious things to me. They've got Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, and Zune. 3 programs developed by 3 different teams for the same purpose. I love the look of Media Center as well as the DVR, but I also love how resource-efficient Media Player is, but I also love how Zune has the marketplace and all that. If they made 1 program combining all the better parts of the 3, they could make something much more superior to iTunes, and they should do it soon. I'm sensing a lot of incoming confusion with Windows Phone 7 using Zune, too, since it's not pre-installed with Windows, like Media Player, or with Home Premium and Ultimate, Media Center. If anyone knows why they wouldn't do this from day 1, please, tell me why.
Microsoft is a corporate mess.
They just put all the divisions together and there are rumors that by Win8 that mess will be sorted out.
They just put all the divisions together and there are rumors that by Win8 that mess will be sorted out.
I hope to god this is true, unless they somehow mess it up. I love the Zune and Media Center look, but not so much Media Player, so I'm hoping they'll do a mix of those 2.
I hope your right Panda. But yeah, basically what BMB said...
I can't wait to see how Windows 8 turns out, seems like every few Windows releases, we end up with a turd, just like Windows ME and Vista.
I can't wait to see how Windows 8 turns out, seems like every few Windows releases, we end up with a turd, just like Windows ME and Vista.
Gee, it sure is :bandwagon: in here.
It makes sense for Media Centre to exist as a separate program, I don't want a fullscreen media player on my desktop but I would on my television. As for Windows Media Player, why can't they just integrate it into explorer? Libraries in Windows 7 are a good step towards playlists.
Gee, it sure is :bandwagon: in here.
Gee, it must be IGNORANT TO THE FACTS in here.
Gee, it must be IGNORANT TO THE FACTS in here.
Woah. I've never seen this much irony in one place.
Gee, it sure is :bandwagon: in here.
A very little known fact is that Windows' XP end of support date was pushed back so many years because Windows Vista was just too fucking awesome of an OS. You wouldn't have this all saved in a text file somewhere, would you? I bet you've been saving this for years.
Wow 1/4 life, I thought you were reasonably intelligent, instead you point out a fucking semantic flaw and resort to random LOL I BET YOU'VE BEEN SAVING THIS FOR YEARS insults, you're a moron, and just because everyone agrees =/= bandwagon.
I can't wait to see how Windows 8 turns out, seems like every few Windows releases, we end up with a turd, just like Windows ME and Vista.
Oh god not this again...

Some kind of double standard going on in here. [editline]03:26PM[/editline]
Oh god not this again...
.
Suck shit, Linux users. Vista is out there to get you.
I am on linux... because my data in my HDD got corrupt and I didn't have an install disk to fix my Vista. yeah... been on linux 3 months now... hate every minute of it. I personally believe the Zune software is WAY superior to Itunes. but not the store and marketplace. Apple has them beat there. I think combining media center and player would be great but not to lose the features PEOPLE ACTUALLY USE. ( I am for some reason paranoid about that ) Then I bet if those teams moved to the Zune team they would pop out updates more often to actually really compete with other MP3 players and music distribution services.
I never said you're morons, I said you're blindly part of a giant Bandwagon.
The point of my post is that it's not a bandwagon. It's not a conspiracy, it's not something someone made up. There were genuine problems with Vista, and you should use common sense and separate those who had legit problems with the OS (Me), and those who heard about us who had legit problems, and decided to rise the mob against Vista even when it did the job fine (Quite a few people on here). Saying I'm part of the bandwagon is fucking ridiculous, sorry.
Man, that post took some effort though. You wouldn't have this all saved in a text file somewhere, would you? I bet you've been saving this for years.
Actually, I just researched that, and yes, it did take 10 minutes. It would have taken a lot longer to not include any links but then 2 posts after that have to argue about each and every point I made because some people just can't look it up on Google by themselves.
What, I can't be smug because I don't want to argue with people who wish to remain ignorant to the facts? gparent and I go way back.
Who are you?
Who are you?
Check your post history.
... and the argument stops while they check post history...
Check your post history.
Can't be bothered, sorry. Most arguments I have aren't really interesting enough for me to remember names.
They just put all the divisions together and there are rumors that by Win8 that mess will be sorted out.
I've heard something like this from a friend who apparently works part-time for Microsoft as a teen consultant or something like that. I mean, they've pretty much caught up in terms of speed with IE 9 and Office 2010 is actually quite a bit better than 2007 from what I've noticed. They will likely also include the ability to use a GPT-formatted hard drive as the primary HDD instead of having to jump through Hybrid MBR hoops, making dual boot hackintoshes much easier on the windows side. (Also, MBR disks can't have partitions larger than 2TB, which is a limit we will hit VERY soon). I'd love to see an even better, more integrated version of Windows 8.
(Also, MBR disks can't have partitions larger than 2TB, which is a limit we will hit VERY soon).
We have already hit that limit.
If we're calling to call Vista shit because it wasn't the best AT LAUNCH then why isn't XP called shit as well? XP had the same bad publicity and issues as Vista. Yet somehow even after Vista was fixed it's still somehow shit whereas XP is just dandy. I don't see why people still bash Vista today. Fuck if you're on SP0 then fine, have at it. But currently, whether you want to believe it or not, Vista is just as good as XP. In some areas it's better, in some it's not. It pretty much evens out. So when 1/4 Life calls this bashing a bandwagon, I can see why. Everyone's just bashing it for what it once was. I guarantee you had 7 taken just as long to get out on the market, everyone would be calling Vista great and ask why bother upgrading.

But yeah you're right everyone is retarded and that is why Vista was such a flop and Windows 7 is ahead of XP for the gaming market today. Not related to the quality of the product at all. EDIT: I don't get your "taken just as long" argument. Vista took 6 years, Win7 took 3. Shouldn't Windows 7 be twice as shitty as Vista was? It doesn't quite work like that, and the time between release means nothing.

Vista was a flop because it wasn't optimized, and because they changed the driver model so frequently that driver developers didn't get to really test them, so by the time Vista was released we had drivers that weren't good. All that's over now yet it still gets trashed. The taken just as long argument. Had Windows 7 released in 2012 rather that 2009, the public probably would have eventually accepted it. It's what happened with XP. XP on launch wasn't liked by the public much like Vista was. After the issues were fixed in XP people grew to accept it and couldn't just skip it. (They could've if they wanted to, it's just now how it happened). Had Vista released in October 2003 like it was originally scheduled to do, I'm pretty certain XP wouldn't have been as praised as it is. Maybe you didn't have problems with XP when it first came out, much like I didn't have problems with Vista came out. I'm speaking from a general perspective. Back then everyone kept to Win2k.
Right, you didn't, and I didn't. I'm going by trends here.
Has it ever occured to you that as soon as something is different it's automatically shit? That is the standard by which such a "trend" should be judged.
shut up all of you this is going nowhere positive As for something related, Windows Media Center is good for a living room environment, not so good as an actual desktop application.
Has it ever occured to you that as soon as something is different it's automatically shit? That is the standard by which such a "trend" should be judged.
Except it wasn't that way with Windows 7. Because it was actually good.
