I can't seem to fall properly asleep without having a let's play running on youtube. My favorites are lets plays of Project Zomboid, Rimworld or Dwarf Fortress, but DayZ and Craft the World videos work as well.
My favorite uploader so far is Splattercat (who I also watch in the daytime), simply because he has a nice voice and does horrible puns.
I have to stay up until midnight reading or watching anime or i literally cannot fall asleep
I also twitch and move randomly sometimes.
like, one time I was over at a friend's and he was getting up in the middle of the night to get water and I threw my hands in the air directly above my head and then brought them back down
Can't sleep even KNOWING there is a light on somewhere. No noise. I have four pillows, and I have to switch the bottoms to the tops and sleep on them every night.
I always have to wank before i go to sleep.
i have to a light on so i can fall asleep :v: i have done this since i was a little kid.
Have to have my fan on for the noise and it has to be pretty dark with no annoying little lights, but that's it really.
I prefer silence/totally dark but can sleep with quiet consistent noise.
I like waiting to take my socks off until right before I crawl into bed, when possible. I don't know why, but the feeling of my feet finally being free from tight-ass socks is relaxing, feels like I'm done for the day.
Especially since my job consists of being on my feet for 8 hours a day.

oh my god it's fucking pleasing to do this
the cool blanket just feels amazing
I always wash my face and pop some zits... ALWAYS I CAN'T STAND ZITS! I would rather have a scab... ugh.... it's like I'm OCD about it.
Also, I can't sleep in a room that is dead silent. I live next to the freeway and the I need the sound to sleep. Every time I sleep over places or camp in a place with no wind or bug noises I have a really hard time sleeping because the silence is just so creepy.... also, I prefer a pitch black room if possible... if not I pull my beanie over my eyes and that also keeps my head warm without suffocating me.
I need sounds to start feeling tired. Usually I just have my ipod going all night with rain sounds on.
I hug a pillow while sleeping.
On the weekdays I take sleeping medication because I have a really hard time falling asleep. And I can't sleep when it's dead silent. Otherwise any bit of sound (room settling, car alarm, thunder) startles me, and I'm wide awake scared shaking. So to counter that I listen to really loud rock/metal music when I get in bed, then 20 or so minutes in I lower the volume down to about 20% and listen to something calm until I sleep.
Haven't had any dreams in a while doing this. It's quite relaxing
And on the weekends I just skip the medication, but still listen to music.
I like it completely dark, but not completely silent.
I have to watch an episode of South Park before bed.
if I can't fall asleep I get angry with myself and punch myself until I give up and go to sleep
I become a philosopher and scientist in the minutes before I fall asleep
Complete silence, complete darkness; no annoying LEDs from a monitor or the PC hard disk indicator or the keyboard backlight. Can't stand it. Sounds are the same, though I can't really control the distant train or fan rattling (both of which I've gotten used to.)
The worst thing is my tinnitus, which becomes super aggravating sometimes. You'd think after my lifetime of having it that I'd be used to it by now, but nope, sometimes you lay there and you focus on it on accident, and you can't stop listening, and it just becomes subsequently louder.
I also sleep with only one pillow and I sleep naked.

i also like to listen to a few songs and sing along out loud while i lay in bed just before sleep, tires me out and its about the only time of day i feel not weird doing it
i sleep with my hat at the side of my pillow so i can put it on when i when i wake up
no im not kidding
oh and Liaison Pumpkinsnuffle is there too.

I have 3 plush dolls sitting on the side of my bed, and I have trouble getting to sleep if they aren't there.
I have to have a movie or something on in the background. Total silence just creeps me out.

I have a plush octopus I got at the aquarium in Boston when I was 4 or so. 17 years later and I still literally cannot sleep without it.
I also like to listen to the Portal soundtrack on a loop.

This is one of the most relaxing pieces of ambient music I have ever heard and I do not exaggerate when I say it's one of my favorite songs from a game.
I put on certain videos.
Recently it's been MST3K Episodes and the MST3K Movie.
I have an empty dry chemical fire extinguisher with the top taken off, and every day, right before I go to bed, I put in about a teaspoon of 71% ethyl alcohol, shake it up a bit, then hold a lighter to the top and stand back as it shoots a flame out like some kind of rocket. I always go to bed happy that way.
Also;

This exactly.

Hey, me too. I've also been getting into the habit of watching Rifftrax more to fall asleep to.
I also cover up bright leds with pieces of paper and I turn a fan on for noise.
Needs to be totally silent in the room
I need at least a small amount of light to be able to sleep.
(And For Fucks Sake. Sometimes it's hard to sleep when a fly or moth flies into my ear [for some fucking reason]. So naturally - I shit myself and hide under my blanket)
My balls have to be in the correct position or else I can't sleep
I sleep with a skull on my bedside.
