• Is it possible to enhance PS2 performance?

Ok, so I got these games that I want to play but I can't because of sluggish performance that makes me crash and nerdrage. Is it possible to somehow enhance it's performance?
Like, do you mean you're using an emulator?
Like, do you mean you're using an emulator?
Nope, I mean the good ol' black box.
That means your PS2 is most likely broken.
Your PS2 is crashing when you play games?
Buy a new one. You can sure find a used one for 50 bucks or lower.
Um, you could try to find an overclocking utility, but good luck with that... The N64 is probably the only *easy* overclocker out there. (Two wires soldered)
It had never even crossed my mind before that you could overclock a console. I'm going to have to look into this!
Just get the PS2 emulator, I think it can read disks from your drive, too.

I don't know if the PS2 is actually affected in this way.
Just open up your console and clean it up. Chances are it's full of shitty dust and cleaning it up will probably give you about +15 FPS. Trust me... it's happened to be before.
Just get the PS2 emulator, I think it can read disks from your drive, too.
I could never get it to read from the DVD drive, personally. I always had to rip the ISOs first. Uh, which emulator are we talking about, exactly?
Does the ps2 downthrottle if it gets to hot? Else clearing out dust wont do shit for your FPS.
The graphics unit could be overheating something fierce. Isn't it when GPU's get too hot their performance goes down like a lead baloon?

You can increase emulation performance in some games by increasing the clock speed of the emulated processor. I'm sure that on a real PS2, the game would also speed up.

I read somewhere that frame skipping on PCSX2 isn't really good at all since it can cause weird issues. So instead when your PC can't keep up, it just ends up playing the game at a slower rate, but still rendering every frame so you get that annoying sound slow down as well.
Unless your PS2 has a dying optical pickup, there isn't much you can easily do.
On the topic, I just bought Pyschonauts for PS2, and wondered if I can get the picture any clearer using composite?
On the topic, I just bought Pyschonauts for PS2, and wondered if I can get the picture any clearer using composite?
Composite is the less good one, red, white audio, yellow for image. You want component, red, green, and blue for image. Composite is only 480i, component can do 480p. It depends on the game and your tv on how much it improves etc.
I could never get it to read from the DVD drive, personally. I always had to rip the ISOs first. Uh, which emulator are we talking about, exactly?
Because you need to use cdvdgigaherz for CDs/DVDs

Ok, so can I just open it up and clean it?
Ok, so can I just open it up and clean it?
Voids warranty, just so you know.
Component doesnt carrry sound though so you still need composite minus the yellow one for that.
Composite is the yellow RCA plug.
Voids warranty, just so you know.
Are there any ps2's still under warranty?
Pretty sure slims are still stocked
Are there any ps2's still under warranty?
Euh... Right. Nvm
I'd just use an emulator at this point. No reason not to play PS2 games in 1080p with AA and AF :)
I'd just use an emulator at this point. No reason not to play PS2 games in 1080p with AA and AF :)
unless you don't have a computer capable of anything remotely resembling that
Because you need to use cdvdgigaherz for CDs/DVDs
Ah, that'd explain it. I didn't look too much into it, to be honest because I'd rather have them as backed-up as ISOs anyway.
