• Changing over motherboard

I want to change the motherboard in my PC over to a different one, but I have a few questions. Do I HAVE TO reinstall windows and will my Dell copy work? Once when I tried to reinstall windows I got an error about missing drivers before it even started installing. Will this happen again with a new mobo? Is there any way to preserve by beautiful AlienFX (colour-changing LEDs in the case)? New mobo: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-358-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1481 Thanks :) [editline]12:25AM[/editline] Actually, instead of changing the mobo, would an AM3 CPU go into the AM2+ socket? I've read that it can on most motherboards with a BIOS update, so I had a look on Dell's website for an update. There is one, but when I try to look what exactly is updated, it tells me to "See release notes", which aren't anywhere to be found :frown: It's an XPS 625 running Vista Premium 64-bit.
yes an am3 cpu will work in an am2+ socket
yes an am3 cpu will work in an am2+ socket
Even on my Dell? I've heard that they hate people upgrading :P
I just recently swapped motherboards, unfortunately several guides explaining how to trick windows into recognizing it proved unsuccessful and I had to reformat :saddowns:
OK but has anyone got an AM3 cpu to work in the am2+ dell xps 625?
Your dell copy of the disk wont work due to your motherboard needing to be a Dell brand. Then LED lights on the case plug into a special slot in the mobo, so those wont work with a new mobo.
Shiit. Are you 100% sure it's not just USB header? [editline]03:16PM[/editline] Looking inside now.
