• Random PC reboots

So I have this problem with my main PC. It just reboots when I load it with something, usually when I start a resource demanding game like GTA 5. But after one reboot it could reboot without doing anything after several seconds to minutes. No warnings, no error messages. After cutting off power to PSU and placing both of my 4GB DDR3-1600 RAM sticks in different slots it works fine for a while (last time was 5 days), but then reboots will happen again eventually. It's definitely not overheating, I did a temperature check - CPU is at 65C under load (model is AMD FX-8320), GPU is 80C (Radeon HD7850). Plus it would always reboot (or actually shut down) if it was a problem with overheating, it wouldn't work just fine under heavy load for 5 days straight. Definitely not a Windows problem, because it rebooted when I ran Memtest (btw I managed to finish the test and it didn't find any problems with RAM). So far I got two possible culprits - either PSU or mobo. PSU is Corsair VS550 (550W), mobo is Asus M5A97 R2.0. Would really appreciate the help in finding the source of this behaviour.
Have you looked at your Event Viewer for any errors? I am guessing it will just be a kernel one but it's worth checking.

Yeah they aren't very useful when it comes to that, I would guess it's the motherboard. PSU generally don't fail and when they do they fail in a more expressive way for want of a better term. The company I work for have thousands of PCs and generally when they don't boot at all I test the motherboard first and 9 times out of 10 it's that. I would recommended getting a new one, but maybe another opinion might be better.
Check if there are mini dumps under c:/windows/minidump and try to analyze them.

PSU though can fail without damaging any components. My same old PC had a 430W Thermaltake PSU that just shut down and start smelling. It was a blown capacitor. Nothing else was damaged. It maybe ram related issue. You have to check ram usage when you load the game.
It maybe ram related issue. You have to check ram usage when you load the game.
If there were bad sectors in RAM, I would have BSODs, not reboots. If there was not enough RAM, I would have a Windows error saying so, or PC would get stuck. RAM is completely not related here.
A little late but here's an update: after thorough cleaning of all components reboots have stopped. Dunno what the fuck was that, but at any rate, the problem solved.
I had a similar problem for awhile, only happened during gaming of high resource tasks, just completely random reboots with no warning. Temps seemed to be fine and I couldn't figure out what was going on. Until one day I realized I had coretemp installed with a thermal threshold of 70C, that means at 65C it would display a message (unseen in full screen games) and at 70C the computer would shut down immediately. My temps are usually fine, but due to the exhaust fan burning out without my knowledge, was reaching 70C during gaming and shutting down unexpectedly. You may or may not have a program like that installed and forgot about it, I know I completely forgot.
