The dvd drive in my 360 is broken, do I need to replace it with the same model or can I use a different drive?
The drive I have is a DG-16D2S Phillips Lite-on, but it's pretty expensive, I found a cheaper drive (Samsung TS-H943A), but I'm not sure if I can use it. So, do I need to use the same drive as a replacement or can I use a different drive?
I would personally suggest you to buy a BenQ drive instead, as they are much more durable, much easier easy to flash, and are generally the cheapest drives on eBay. Just remember to spoof the inquiry strings to the model of your original drive, and modify the drivekey to the same one that was originally on the drive.
But just as a heads up, liteon drives are quite a bitch to work with, as dumping the key will often requires addition hardware.
gah
would it just to be easier to buy the same model drive i have and just swap out the boards?
You could, except Liteon Drives have lots of soldered wires. For average users, people tends to get some of the wires mixed up and ending up frying something
