Facepunch, I am in need of money so I have decided to start mowing the lawn. I've mowed our lawn before, and it was not very pleasant. I need tips on how to make this quicker and less demanding.
Hire someone to do it for you.
Cover your lawn in concrete. Won't have to mow it again.
Go in patterns.
get one of those lawnmowers with motorized wheels get a lawnmower that you ride on top of
I'm professional at this, I literally made 400 a week mowing lawns this summer. Bring water, you'll need it. When the grass is wet/too long, the mower will get clogged and suddenly stop. To prevent this tip the front wheels up by pushing down on the handles (so the tires rise up) You'll see grass fly out from underneath. Walk forwards with the mower one way, then on the way back drag it behind you. Makes everything easier and faster. Listen to some tunes. That's basically it man, it's a pretty easy job and some people pay a lot. I had two customers paying me 50 bucks to mow their lawn.
See the thing is I want to earn money not spend it.
Read my post and become pro. It's even better if they get you to use their mower so you don't gotta pay for gas. ask your parents if they can ask around town for people to hire you, like their friends and co-workers. Make sooo much money if done right.
I have a push mower with motorized wheels also. I'm not really looking for tips on how to use the mower I'm looking for ways to reduce time and increase efficiency. Like is mowing in an "S" pattern faster than making a box and spiraling in. Synopsis I thank you for your serious suggestions and I have noticed to do some of those already. I'm curious on the dragging it behind you part, how would that make a difference in anything other than you looking stupid to passing people?
How to make it quicker? Mow faster How to make it less demanding? Look for a lawn with not a lot of grass Mowing a lawn is eaaaaaaasy compared to some jobs lol
how about you dont and say you did
snip

Once I get comfortable with mowing I may start mowing other's lawns. [editline]08:07PM[/editline]
how about you dont and say you did
Not an option. I'm an honest person and I know I wouldn't be able to bring myself to say such a thing.
so then why do you want tips
I just go back and fourth in lines.

Here's what I mean when I say drag it behind you. -> Pushing mower <- Pulling Mower Behind you |-----------| |---------> | |<--------- | |.......... | |.. ........| | .........| |-----------| And repeat until lawn is done, very easy. [editline]04:09AM[/editline] sorry about the poor diagram i'm mentally fucked.
so then why do you want tips
Because I'm actually going to mow the lawn.
The dragging behind works without motorized wheels, but I missed that part in your post. your best part is to do it in rows. Start from one end, turn around and go back the way you came.
Do lines back and forth, when you need to mow in the other direction, pop it up on its back wheels and pivot.
Question: What should I do in this situation; If I was doing it right in the picture, where would I go from the "?" Or if I wasn't doing it right, what should I have done? [editline]08:16PM[/editline] Keep in mind I want to have the lines as straight as possible.
stay as close to the edge of your last line as possible and you'll be fine. [editline]04:21AM[/editline]
Question: .
Wow, I've never seen something like that before. Think about it as a canvas and you want to get it covered as soon as possible
Another question: In large semi-complex lawns is it faster to avoid mowing on already mowed sections at all costs or should I cut across sometimes?
just do sections if its really that complex

However I have a riding lawnmower (I have about 1.5 actual acres of lawn). Usually what I do is mow around trees and inanimate objects with the blower part of the mower facing away from the tree. (so you don't get clippings and shit all over your tree.) Then start doing the lines. With a riding mower I have the luxury of being able to disengage the blade and go back to places I missed.

I'm sure you've had to mow around a round obstruction before. [editline]08:28PM[/editline] :arghfist::saddowns:
If it's a small tree, just do a circle around it before you get up to it. Then when you finally get to that tree just go around and continue the patturn on the other side.

[editline]08:28PM[/editline] :arghfist::saddowns:
I meant your mowing style not the obstruction, i just keep going with it then I come back to the other side of the obstruction [editline]04:39AM[/editline] Lawnmowing ninja damn it
Okay, I think I've got a good understanding as to what makes lawn mowing go faster. I've taken a good look at a mental image of my lawn from a top-down perspective, and I can now envision the fastest path of mowing. Thank you Facepunch, you are good for something other than wasting my summer and life for once!
No problemo, good luck. when you get it all down you should mow other people's lawns. Winter is coming so you can start shoveling too.
You gotta lick the lawn before you mow it
