People mostly post in fast threads because it gets (almost) the most traffic from other people so that people's threads can grow quickly.

Fast threads, more than general discussion even, is FP's /b/. By that I mean it's full of shitty post your threads, camwhores, people who think old memes are still hi-larious, etc. It's an ingenious system actually, an attempt to create a giant melting pot where all the shitty, contentless threads that would clog up the other forums, go to fester in their own fluids. It's terrible, but a necessary evil unfortunately.
