I gotta admit, I skimmed for the word Half Life 3 first.

They were very good for their time, but as you know it's sure been awhile, games age, but I'd earlier replay half life instead of call of duty.

At the time of it's release, Half Life 1 was outstanding, it received all the awards, all the praise and almost everyone you knew had a copy.
Half Life 2 was also very good, as it introduced a new gameplay element that had never been seen before: Seesaw puzzles.
Good. Maybe more actual game developers should start leaving and make it a point that Valve doesn't make games anymore.

Holy shit.
Portal 2 - 2011
CS:GO - 2012
Dota 2 - 2013
Valve has came out with a game every year since 1998. Does this really need to be said every thread?
It's a shame Hocking couldn't find an outlet for his work, and that's why he's leaving. But the whole "Valve doesn't make games anymore" really pisses me off.
I had no idea that there existed another person called Clint besides Clint Eastwood.

They're pretty damn good and Black Mesa: Source proves that there are still a lot of people craving more from the series.

I think people are either jumping around the bush, saying 'new game' for 'last part of half life three' without actually saying that or are stating Valve hasn't made an original game since 2008 (2010 if you really count Alien Swarm that went nowhere) and are getting fussy about the sequels that are pretty interesting or the skin/engine updates for already existing games or games that were simply ideas that Valve bought and turned into games (Portal, Left4Dead). While Valve has pushed out several games with nice quality, their only original IP's have either just gotten make-up updates (CS 1.6 -> CS:S -> CS:GO) or have just stagnated until something happens. And with Valve now being more interested in hardware than software, since that seems to be the untapped market that could, potentially, bring in tons of dosh, people are upset that Valve has (allegedly) turned their focus away from finishing a game that has just been left in limbo or making any original games that aren't existing games in other places. Whether or not they have a bunch of people working on it is left to others to decide since we've nothing to prove this and they've kept tight-lipped about it. The constant leaks (Who recalls seeing that picture of the computer with the emails, one with Source 2 and L4D3?) could reinforce the idea, but people like results. So far, most folk that follow Valve are getting results they don't want. So it's understandable they'd get fussy over things they aren't interested in.
Now with the slow stream of people leaving Valve, from dudes who worked on games personally to those who tried to make tech work for them (they got fired, actually, but whatever), people are asking questions (as always).
At least, that's my take. Iunno.

That or people craving model/skin upgrades to existing games.

"I don't like dota or counter strike so they don't count" is basically what people that valve make no games mean.
I can definitely see why he left. CSGO and DOTA2 are pretty light on new, official maps.
I still want Day of Defeat: Global Offensive.

Every single game they've "made" aside from Half-Life was developed by another team that Valve acquired. When was the last time Valve made a game or created an original IP strictly in-house?

Technically speaking, Half-Life and Ricochet are the only 'original' IP they've made, CS, Dota, and TF were from mods, Portal and L4D were expanded on ideas.
Otherwise, Portal 2.

I really don't get your point. They gather up the teams and everyone at valve has free will to join dev of that game

Portal was new intellectual property. Basically the only thing that wasn't new was the reuse of the central mechanic from Narbacular Drop, but the setting/story/characters were all different.
