As much as I love Valve, every time I hear about them doing something regard DOTA 2, and not literally anything else I lose a tiny bit of faith in them. I would take a non-ironic Ricochet 2 at this point. I just want them to stop with the DOTA.

I'd like it if they updated the SDK with some cross platform tools (I mean SFM uses Qt! they obviously have the know how now), but it's such a boring job I'm not surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

Just because the game has a steep learning curve it doesn't mean it's shit. DOTA can be really fun at times, but it's mostly really challenging.
Boohoo they are having a good time developing a game I don't like! Make it stop!
I wasn't aware that I wasn't allowed to criticism people doing things that I don't want them to. They're under obligation to stop because I specifically want them to, I just wish they would.
You really don't understand how Valve works on projects, do you?
I know that people work on what they want to work on, which is what bothers me. The fact that DOTA is so popular makes me feel as though a large percentage of devs are going to, or have already, jumped from a project that I want to see, to it. I know it seems a bit childish "oh no, stop doing what I don't want you to do!", but I am allowed an opinion on what I think they should be spending their time on; as you are. I don't even own the game.

They're under obligation to stop because I specifically want them to, I just wish they would.
Whether or not you're "allowed" to do it or not, it's still a pretty stupid thing to do. So what if Valve is working on a game you don't like? If you didn't think Dota was bad then you wouldn't want Valve to stop working on it. Wouldn't you want Valve to work on something if that something is good, and want them to stop working on something if it's bad?
I didn't even say DOTA was bad, I just said I wish they'd stop work on it, and put that effort into something else. I don't even own the game.
Maybe you should give it a go first then before blindly throwing hate on it. I thought it wasn't all that too before I actually tried playing it.
I don't even own the game.
So because you don't even own the game Valve should just drop everything and work on things you like/own?
I'm honestly sick of all these TF2 players getting mad over the fact a portion of Valve went and started working on something else. After what? 5 years of TF2 being supported?

(pic is of today) You do realize Valve is a company, and it has to make profit? Valve is still working on other projects, Steam Trading cards was just released, and they added VR support for Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2 very recently. They are probably working on a VR project. I mean did you even read Michael Abrash's blog posts? http://blogs.valvesoftware.com/author/mabrash/ So yeah to sum it up you are complaining Valve has only posted about Dota2 this year, that means you missed: TF2 VR support HL2 VR support Steam Trading Cards TF2 Electric Boogaloo
I found a couple of bugs in the closed beta.
So because you don't even own the game Valve should just drop everything and work on things you like/own?
No, as I said, I acknowledge that Valve has no obligation whatsoever to do something because I want them to. But there'd be people who'd be pissed about that, and it would be exactly the same. Just that different people would be whining.
Maybe you should give it a go first then before blindly throwing hate on it. But they're fundamentally the same. Like CoD and Battlefield, I suppose.

I know they won't, and I know other people are enjoying that game, but that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to be annoyed about a company spending resources on a product I'm not interested in.
I played a round of LoL, and found the entire concept to be horrendous. They're different games, true. But they're fundamentally the same. Like CoD and Battlefield, I suppose.
See I played LoL around half a year before I tried DOTA and I really hated it. Yes, they are the same genre, but they feel very different a lot of the time. Also I feel that DOTA doesn't have the problem that I found was most prominent with LoL, that being that you don't have to pay for any heroes. So you admit to just being selfish? Because that's all I'm getting from you at the current moment. I personally don't really care that much for TF2, but I really don't want them to stop supporting it anytime soon because it clearly is like by many people.
Are you kidding me? So if I play Call of Duty, and don't like it, I can assume I won't like Battlefield either?
Call of Duty and Battlefield are both first person shooters. They have their quirks, Battleifeld has vehicles, for example. But the gameplay basics are the same. I don't like the top down view, the forced importance on teamplay and the ability system, for example. If you played CoD and didn't enjoy the perspective and the loud noises, you wouldn't enjoy Battlefield either.
Yes, I do want them to stop working on the most played game on steam. What is so hard to understand about this? People will disagree with you, because you are the minority, and not much people will agree with you. You are just replying now trying to defend your comment and not look like a complete banana, but you're just making it look worse. You can have your opinion and that's fine, but people are going to disagree with you and you don't need to spam up this entire thread about it. I mean, you're coming in this thread just to state that you are not interested in this news, and you could tell by the title that this news was not for you because it states Dota 2, yet you clicked it just to complain.
Call of Duty and Battlefield are both first person shooters. They have their quirks, Battleifeld has vehicles, for example. But the gameplay basics are the same..
Wrong. Their different gameplay basics are one of the biggest reasons why people prefer one over the other.
Yes, I do want them to stop working on the most played game on steam. What is so hard to understand about this? I don't play that anymore, because Valve seems to have shifted focus onto absurd hats over interesting weapons. As for being selfish, I suppose, but only as much as anyone else who wants a company to do something that they're not is. It's like getting annoyed at Infinity Ward for putting of CoD after CoD. If they stopped, millions of people would be upset. Doesn't change the fact that others want them to stop.
Yes, I do want them to stop working on the most played game on steam. What is so hard to understand about this?
Where are you even getting that I like TF2 from? I don't play that anymore, because Valve seems to have shifted focus onto absurd hats over interesting weapons.
Because that's another example of a game that Valve are very invested in, one that I happen to not care about.
As for being selfish, I suppose, but only as much as anyone else who wants a company to do something that they're not is. It's like getting annoyed at Infinity Ward for putting of CoD after CoD. If they stopped, millions of people would be upset. Doesn't change the fact that others want them to stop.
Not liking the game is okay, but mouthing off about how they should stop making a successful one because you don't like it sounds ridiculous. Valve are clearly working on other major game in the background, and the way their company works means that them working on DOTA will not affect the other games production means that your opinion has no real basis other than blind hate of a game that you have admitted to not playing.
I played a round of LoL, and found the entire concept to be horrendous. They're different games, true. But they're fundamentally the same. Like CoD and Battlefield, I suppose.
But seriously. I can get it that people might not like a game like LoL or Dota, but calling it horrendous is just being blind. No genre is horrendous. The worst you could get would be turning a game that works and has worked only on one genre into something completely different, and that is still debatable. But outright calling something horrendous? How is pitting 5 heroes vs another 5 heroes (or champions, whatever you want to call them) in a game of power plays where you take each others towers until you smash their base horrendous? Even better when there are hundreds of heroes, hundreds of items, hundreds of skills and skill builds, which all adds up to an endless variety of combinations from which you can have tons of fun. You can say you dislike the genre, but saying its horrendous is just showing that you are very close minded and can't see beyond your own preferences.
TF2 VR support HL2 VR support Steam Trading Cards TF2 Electric Boogaloo
man look at all that other shit no one cares about
