Why do developers see free-to-play MMO'S as if they're the second coming of Jesus Christ?

Because Wargaming bought them and they make a shit ton of money from Internet Tanks.
SupCom RTSMMO incoming.

The lead developers aren't even there anymore and square enix owns the supcom franchise, so much for that possibility.

They don't have to CALL it Supcom.
and they said that it IS a possibility when Wargaming and GPG announced the acquisition.

It's not, you can't do shit with narratives or anything groundbreaking with design... free-to-play is just one big cashmachine for devs and publishers.
Chris Taylor announced that his studio were working on a "free-to-play, triple-A MMO with PvP"
Who doesn't these days.
I don't get why so many people are hopping on the MMO wagon either. Aren't those really expensive and thus inherently risky? Aren't players very reluctant to get away from their "home" MMO or F2P because of all the time they've invested there? I thought that was why WoW clones had always had such a hard time competing, whereas clones in other genres at least worked out okay most of the time.
How about you just make a Sub-based MMO that is good. Then you don't need the shitty gimmicks of a poorly made F2P game.
Oh boy, another f2p MMO on the market.
This one will surely succeed!

I would say that Firefall does f2p very well but it is probably one of the only games to do it well. It would probably be fine being a p2t game but either way f2p seems to work well for Firefall.
Not only that if I am correct the up coming Archeage is going to be f2p and that seems like f2p will be the best possible option for the game as it is very much based around buying and selling land. Better you can play that game for free and pay for the land than buying the game and having to buy land on top.
Well, I'm glad the guys all get to keep their jobs more or less, but the fact they're even provisionally losing their name is quite telling. It just seems like the studio in its original form is already dead.
More f2p MMOs and MOBAs are just what gaming needs!
