Hi,
My PSU has been popping fr a while when I turn the plug on, and today there was quite a loud one, this was in a different circumstance though.
I had put my computer to sleep, and as it was going off, their seemed to be a high pitched whirring noise from somewhere in the case, I just ignored it and left it to its own devices.
About 5 minutes later I tried switching it back on. It started booting up, then went off, then tried again and managed, there was one slight problem though, no screen!
I tried turning it off with the button, but to no avail, so I resorted to the switch on the back.
I came back later and turned it back on, causing a slightly louder than usual pop. I turned it on, but still no screen.
I opened it up and reset the bios (removing the battery...).
When I turned it back on, it took longer than usual but the screen was back, only problem was that it froze.
Tried again and was successful.
I was just wondering whether any of you had experienced this, know why this happened, or know what has caused it.
The only thing that comes to my mind is a screw in the PSU, but that is out of harms way (stuck in the grill at the back), brother dropped it in.
I am running on Windows 7.
PSU is a Corsair TX650W.
Graphics Card is a Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT.

ANY kind of popping, snapping, clicking, or grinding sounds from any part of a computer means that something is very, very wrong. You power supply might be dying a horrible death.
It might also have taken down other parts of your computer with it, if you're unlucky.
Usually, brand name PSUs doesn't cause damages to the mainboard and other components if the PSU was electrically damaged and/or suffered from a surge due to the way the certain protective circuits are designed.
