The mirror universe episodes were the only thing that was not a steaming peace of shit in this show.

My housemate, whose a terrifyingly huge Star Trek fan (to the point of owning several books on the technical and behind-the-scenes history of all ilks of Star Trek), has mentioned to me that the original plan for Discovery was to jump to the mirror universe almost immediately, but then the showrunners decided they should spend a few episodes in the prime universe, to establish the prime characters' personalities, so that their Terran reflections had a larger impact on audiences.
I don't have a source to back that up, but if it's true, it could explain why the mirror universe episodes were so much stronger than the first half of the season. And it makes sense to me - Tilly's Terran counterpart being a ruthless sadist wouldn't really have the same impact if we had no idea that Tilly is a timid be-friends-with-everyone sort of person.

Thanks for sourcing that for me.
I tried just Googling "Star Trek Discovery mirror universe original plans", but all I got was a bunch of stuff about the last few episodes.
I'm not good at finding sources, apparently. Didn't even occur to me to check the Twitter accounts of people involved. :v:

Rating his post 'Dumb' because he edited it just feels unfair. I've made plenty of posts I instantly regretted and edited to be more constructive.
And the fact Tuskin edited his post to be more constructive (and to help me out, so I might be biased here :v:) I think should be taken into consideration.

And I personally appreciate that. Thank you again, Tuskin.
