I am currently getting ideas together for a system build for the near future (about 1 month or so from now)
I am currently in the research stage right now. so far i have in hand these items:
Hard Drives
CD/DVD Burner
Case
I plan on getting this stuff:

Also I plan to play games on it once in a while, I play games such as Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare 2, TF2, etc. i don't intend play Crysis at all.
Also I need to use this system for 3D modeling and animation (game design and development major here)
as well as power for rendering and compiling very large files. I figured an i7 would work best as I want to spend as little time as possible compiling or rendering.
Any suggestions are welcome. It would be great if I could get the cost of this system down even more. I feel the maximum to spend here is about $900.00

Slight overclock and you have the 860 and its should overclock better because of higher binning.
I might as well save some $$$ and get the Intel Xeon X3440 Lynnfield 2.53GHz and overclock it to 3.0 on the stock cooler.
great motherboard, but I feel its a bit too expensive compared to your other parts.
the GD80 or GD65 is enough.
