Hello Facepunch, my friend is looking to get a budget gaming desktop for around £400 to £500 ($650 - $800).
He wants to use the desktop for playing Source Engine games and other big title games such as Battlefield 3 & 4 and Arma 3.
The PC will be used for long periods and must have decent cooling.
My friend does not have any parts he can re-use and does not have an OS.
He is also not looking to overclock.
My friend will be using an Ethernet cable to connect to the internet.

Just use the stock cooler for now and if you wanted you could get a Hyper 212 Evo and use it to cool your CPU and it would work well to have it set up as an exhaust out the back of the case which will keep the pc cool during long gameplay or whatever.

Thanks for the reply, this looks good but what kind of benchmarks would that graphics card get?
Should have no problem getting around 30-35 FPS on BF4 Ultra 4x AA at 1080P. If you want to have more benchmarks look up a 7870 ghz edition, it is basically one of those with some new features such as mantle(that BF4 uses) so you will get a little more performance on BF4 than a 7870.

Awesome, so everything in that list will get my friends computer going? Does the CPU come with thermal paste ect?
The stock cooler comes with thermal paste pre applied and if you get the Hyper 212 evo it comes with some thermal paste too, but yes it has everything needed except peripherals.(monitor, mouse, etc.)
And you're gonna need dat screw drivuh. ;)
I'l make sure he gets a screw drivuh, thanks for all the help!
