To make a long story short, someone broke into my house and decided that the one thing they wanted to steal was my 7 year old laptop, which means that I am in the market for a new one.
Basically, all I ever really used (or planned on using) it for was internet browsing and playing video/audio files. I browsed forums and watched movies while I was going to bed. I'm looking for something that can do this for as cheaply as possible. It's been so long (7 years) since I looked at all into any sort of laptops that the whole net/chromebook thing has sprung up without any thought from myself.
So if anyone has any experience with something that could do the above mentioned tasks cheaply, I would love some feedback. Like I said, I know both net and chrome books seem to be marketed towards similar functions but I don't really know what to look for in either of them.
I'm also, coincidentally, in the market for vigilante justice enthusiasts.
The cheapest, smoothest way to browse the web and play video / audio files would just be to get an android tablet like the Nexus 7 / 10.
Chromebooks and netbooks are rather gimped even compared to tablets, you would be way better off getting a slightly older refurb / used Thinkpad or Elitebook with a bigger screen resolution off of eBay if you need something with a keyboard and full Windows. Otherwise tablets are nice.
Get a used core 2 duo based laptop, they would do fine and are really cheap.
I second that. You can usually find a used thinkpad or dell latitude with a core2duo pretty cheap
Or in luckier occasions, one with an i5 or i3 processor that would do better than the Core 2 Duo. Like a T410 or X201 ThinkPad.
That as well. There are a lot of business refurbs on Newegg with first gen i5's and 4 gigs of RAM. That may do you better.
