• Need a new GPU and RAM.

Hey, Currently my gpu is Nvidia 6800 Ultra. Surprisingly, it still runs good to this day. My ram, its pretty big, i mean its a whole, 1G, :/ I need an update. Before anyone starts telling me, oh well if you buy that, then your gonna need this(power supply/motherboard etc...) I know. First i plan on getting the new GPU first. I tend to stick with Nvidia, so please Nvidia only. Im looking for a good card, around $200-230$ What I want out of this card is to be able to run games such as, SC2 on ultra/high, and TF2 on all high, and long down the road(dont think anyone can answer these 2) is to play NS2 and HL2EP3 and Portal 2 on High settings. So heres what im asking. 1.What is a good card for that price. 2.Where is the best place to get it. 3.Link if you have one. 4.If you own the card your telling me about, please tell me how it runs. As for Ram. Im thinking slowly working up to 4g, buy getting 2g first, then eventually another 2g after. My question for RAM is, Whats a really fast RAM? and where can i get it? Sorry for all the questions, Moneys tight.

Not a fanboy, just really like there cards, this card has worked so well for over 6 years and according to the reviews on that card. Cons: -It's dying 3 months into owning it, clicked refresh on the windows experience index and the video completely cut until i restarted, can't play games for more than 10 minutes at times till it dies and thats when they even get passed the main menu Other Thoughts: I'll never buy XFX again, had a PNY gtx 260 before this for 2 years and it never had issues like this. I do not want something like that.

I want my card to last, although, without those cons on that card, that is an extremely nice card and that would be the one i would buy. Thanks for the link to the power supply also. Really helpful :D

The card isn't going to break down, and you'll get far more power for your money. Stop reading the 1 star reviews. People who don't have problems usually don't respond.
Surely he'll need more than a 400W PSU...
no he won't, his system won't even draw 400w not to mention that's a high quality psu [editline]05:45PM[/editline]
Not a fanboy, just really like there cards, this card has worked so well for over 6 years and according to the reviews on that card. Haha ya, sorry im just really cautious, been saving for this for months, been jobless, finally had a job interview like 2 days ago. Just want to make the right choice. Thanks for the help, and that is a really really nice card. Thank you.

You say that you want to run TF2 on high, but TF2 is dependant on CPU more than GPU. What is your CPU? (I'm aware I'm not exactly answering your question, but I just want you to realize that getting a new GPU and RAM might not be the best way to spend your money)

Also, these are what the 1 stars can be like: If there's a problem, even if it's on their end because they're using motherboard made out of cat hair and tinfoil, they're going to rate it into the ground.

But my cpu is AMD-Athlon64-FX55

Silverstone is up there with Corsair
get this one instead
Uh, Yeah, and that's just the bare bones... The 5770 lists 450W as the minimum power req. I realize that's a bit over what it actually needs, but there's nothing wrong with having some leeway in there, especially if he wanted to grab a second 5770 in the future for crossfire.

hey, me and OP got the same video card.
The problem is, you probably won't be able to use the new ram and graphics card in your old computer, chances are the motherboard doesn't support them. You'd be better off if you just save up money until you can buy all the parts for a new computer, maybe the prices will lower a bit by that time.
Get a 9800GT and 4 gigs of RAM. If your looking for like 300$ for those two, you should definitly try NewEgg if your in the US. That is if your Motherboard supports them.

You're probably not going to have it fail on you, reviews like that will happen with every single component. [editline]09:53AM[/editline] Also, what's your motherboard? We need to know what kind of RAM you can get.
Don't forget XFX, PNY etc are only customizing the same card, not manufacturing the whole card independently, thus saying that you will never buy from so and so again is unreasonable, to say the least.
My motherboard is asus a8n32-sli deluxe
You won't get anywhere with that mobo, better wait till you got more money.. Or, you could get a new GPU, but chances are it will be bottlenecked. You could either but the GPU now, and wait till you get more money, and upgrade the rest, or just wait and buy it all at one time. This way you can be sure that the PSU will be sufficient for the future bulid, the other way you can't.. Rate me bad reading, this is formulated horribly...
If he wants NVIDIA http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814261072&cm_re=nvidia_geforce_gtx_465-_-14-261-072-_-Product

Im getting that sexy ATI card.
Got this. Runs TF2 completely maxed (including AA & AF at max) no problem. I don't plan on upgrading any time soon.
Not to step on the NVIDIA users, and I'm sure the 9800 gt is a fine card, but ATI has much more bang for buck with their products at that price, so let's let the OP get the most for his money rather then personal preference. And really, with the other hardware there, I would agree that its be best to just wait and do a new build. The GPU would suffer a pretty nasty bottleneck otherwise. On a side note, yes 4 gigs of ram is a good amount, I've generally seen it considered the "sweet spot" as of now for gaming, any more and the diminishing return isn't worth the cost if the computer is just for gaming.
