so ive been on a ipod 3rd gen with ios 4.3.5 and i was thinking of upgrading to 5.0.1 when the redsnow jailbreak came out of beta for 5.0.1 and i was wondering if there was a way to keep all my tweaks when i upgrade cause i already have my music and apps synced

If you upgrade the version of iOS, it will "lock off" the jailbreak data so you have no access to it and thus becomes dead space on the iPod. If you restore, it will erase existing data and you'll need to resync content via iTunes.
To make the jailbreak process easier, you can download xBackup or PkgBackup before you restore your phone so it saves your JB tweaks and restores them when you redownload the backup app from Cydia.
