For those whop don't know. In Japan, they print their newspapers in their most complex writing (they have 4), which has several thousand characters in it. I don't know why, I think it's nuts. Most children haven't learn enough of these characters to read a newpaper until the are in their late teens

Yeah you need to know like 6000 japanese characters to read a newspaper, 10,000 mandarin to read a chinese one... and 6-8000 to read korean newspapers, if I remember correctly.

You only need around 2100 Chinese characters(Called Kanji in Japan) for Japanese plus all Hiragana and Katakana.
now i know my abc's....
