the end of the franchise will be when they stop getting money from people buying up progressively less intuitive gameplay [editline]5th August 2013[/editline] that is, in a long time
Remember what happened last time an Ending was planned, and they kept running and running, and then at the end they dropped that ending? Lost

I thought that, by all rights, the franchise shoulda "ended" when AC3 was finished; the 2012 arc with the First Civilisation and the coming Solar Apocalypse came to a close when Desmond did that whole "messianic sacrifice" thing. I don't know what the hell they're doing with the franchise at the moment, but surely it needs to scale back on the mass-murder aspect and go back to what it was meant to be; a game about assassination. From what I've seen, with all the counter-chains and one-on-one swordfighting, the singleplayer gameplay has become less assassination and more like Errol Flynn meets James Bond; the Ship-style gameplay of the multiplayer is closer to the original theme of assassination.
Well at least they're going to be giving it a proper ending, unlike some other franchises out there
Well they better stop the franchise before they reach the 12th game. Or else this will end up like Final Fantasy. It goes on forever
The bit about dropping hints makes me wonder if we're ever going to get that Chinese assassin that was hinted at in REV and III. I've pretty much come to terms with yearly AC, even though the series peaked at Brotherhood. At this point walking around the historical city design is enough to pick up the latest on a steam sale, no more no less.

Against the forces of the Ciphers Templar And animus nanomashies
I hope they do one in/around WWI then. :P
It's a shame though because the series made a complete face heel turn I guess at the end of the third one. There was clear developmental inspiration that came from the first three. Ass creed one simply being what it was. Then two comes and introduces loads of streamlining, variation in all manners and most importantly a main character who even if you didn't love him you saw his progression from street rat to a great and powerful kind of person. The third only continued what the second did. Enzios progression as a character grew only more, as did game mechanics and such. The problem was that there was a third chapter in enzios story. That game should have been what we know as assassins creed 3. It should have been the game that changed everything up a bit to revitalize the series life. But instead we get a game as tired and out of tricks as its equally tired and old protagonist who's story should have ended with the third game in the series, not the 4th. If it wasn't for that and they skipped developing a tired third chapter in enzios story and focused on Connors game more, the series wouldn't have train wrecked. Assassins creed 3 was somewhat meh. It wouldn't have been that way if they turned into a game factory. In fact in 3 the controls and sub menus are outdated.
I give props to AC4 for trying something new. Not many games have pirates, full naval combat, and open world exploration all in one.
The last Assassin's Creed will have you playing Jack.
Probably the one from the Titanic movie. Ever wonder why E J Smith ignored the warning? Because he was already dead. AC4 is probably the only AC I've looked forward to since 2, now with optional modern day parts, I'm all over this one
They should abandon the series, but not their concepts and ideas. I think AC4 would make a great pirate game, with the "assassins" part shoehorned in there, hard.
I'm wondering if at some point we'll see cowboy assassins... They did hint at it with the avatar outfit for the xbox 360:

Freerun wouldn't exist at all.

I'm a bit disappointed AC games turned into yearly releases. Knowing the ending but going further and further rarely works out in the end. Some TV shows are an example.
