• Speaker is making grinding sound, but VC is fine as far as I can tell

Alright, I've had this system for a while now. I turned it up a bit too much a while back and it started making a cracking sound. It progressively got worse as I used the speaker (not at that high of a volume however), and now it's degenerated into what I will post below. One would immediately think it's a warped voice coil, however when I press into the speaker's center there is absolutely no grinding sound whatsoever. The main symptoms are a grinding sound, the volume is MUCH lower (I can't hear it until I turn it up to 30ish/50), and it doesn't seem to extrude nearly as much as it should. I have two, the other (at the same volume) extrudes about 2 inches. Video, hopefully you guys can hear the sound:
Anyone? :/ I was hoping some of you guys would have experience in speakers, but if I don't get any replies (again) I'm gonna repost this in GD.
You obviously blew it, speakers can't go as high as the volume knob actually goes. Kinda like how a car can go faster than the speedometer says, but this is an opposite and not a good example. [editline]11:28PM[/editline] GD?

I only had it turned up to 30/50 (this is enough to have it extruding a bit, but not a LOT) and it started making retarded noises. On a side note, I just tested the tinsel leads and they seem to be OK. I noted one thing; It plays perfectly fine in low frequencies, from 1Hz to 70Hz, then 80Hz+ it begins to make the odd noises. I noticed that if while it's playing, I put pressure on the woofer so that the cone is lower inside the cage, it doesn't make the sound any more. Also, "blowing" a speaker can mean a variety of things; sometimes it can mean melting the voice coil (which is irreparable without replacement parts) or a simple tinsel lead disconnection (which is an incredibly easy fix). I'm just trying to see if the speaker is salvagable, and from what I gathered from the tests I just did, I think it is. I'm hoping to get some feedback from someone experienced in speakers, I'm not highly experienced, but I do know quite a bit about them. Anyways, back to testing.
Wow, OK, I really did not understand what you said. I'm somewhat GLaD I'm not an A/V person. Extruding seems to be the key word. Tinsel leads as well. I'm obviously not much help with you. Try Tom's Hardware, I always get search results from them with tech problems.
