Ethernet drivers need to be uninstalled/reinstalled between different uses.

This may or may not be a dumb question, but i've never really used a wired connection.
Anyways, because microsoft decided to be a bunch of cheap bastards and include no wifi receiver in the 360, i've been using my laptop as a makeshift receiver by hooking them together with an ethernet cord. My modem and 360 are in different rooms. Basically, when I unhook the 360 and hook my laptop to my modem, I have to uninstall/reinstall the Ethernet drivers before it recognizes the modem. Once I hook the laptop back up to my 360, it seems the only method of having the 360 pick up the signal transfer from the laptop to the console is to system restore to the point before I uninstalled the drivers while hooking them up to my modem. This, obviously, is a major pain in the ass, and i'm sure there's some easy as fuck method of correcting it that I just can't understand.
My wifi is a bit choppy so I don't prefer to use it.
Any help would be appreciated. Please don't be a douche just because my understanding of computers is only slightly better than your average grandmother.
