Is it possible to flash over a iPhone from at&t to another service such as Verizon or T-Mobile? Also, if I were to do so is it 'legal.'
I believe, however I'm not sure, that is what unlocking it is. It would likely be against apple's ToS but wouldn't be illegal.
You can unlock it granted the baseband isn't already upgrade to the point of new return. [editline]09:30PM[/editline] I know for sure currently T-Mobile with the iPhone can't utilize 3G.
but it works on it anyway.
Yes n No, you cant get in any legal trouble but they can pull the kill switch on your iphone, if you do unlock it i suggest not using itunes, every time your iphone goes on to itunes it registers to the AT&T and APPLE servers, if you are going to unlock it, instead of using Itunes use IPHONEPCSUITE, If your on a mac then there are clients like that everywhere.
Jailbreak, SBsettings, kill the kill switch.
Don't even need to. They WILL NOT kill switch your ipod, if there is or isn't one. They will NOT do shit.
Apple DID confirm the killswitch, but it was in case of dire emergency - as in, if they somehow accepted a malicious app into the AppStore. At least, that's what the Apple propaganda machine says.
Lol at responses. The iPhone is a GSM only phone. GSM phones use SIM cards, and are not flashed. You cannot flash the iPhone to Verizon or Sprint, as they are CDMA networks, which the iPhone cannot and will not connect too. You can unlock using some non-Apple approved methods, such as Ultrasn0w. This allows you to use any GSM carrier in the world, such as T-Mobile US. I don't know the US laws to do with unlocking, but in some countries, unlocking GSM phones (and reflashing CDMA phones) are illegal unless the service is performed by a phone company. I know it is legal to unlock GSM phones in Australia through any means. However, Ultrasn0w is verging on infringing Apple's copyrighted materials. [editline]09:17PM[/editline] Also, the killswitch is only for blocking and deleting applications. It cannot and will not kill your phone for any reason.
Jailbreak, SBsettings, kill the kill switch.
It doesn't implode the device. You're talking about the "hey-we-let-through-an-app-that-wipes-out-everything-with-porn-sorry-we'll-remove-it" one. My bad, though.
The problem with unlocking an iPhone is that some of the features like push and visual voicemail or whatever it was called might/won't be supported on another network.
Yes, these responses on the kill switch are true, for PAST firmware versions, OP let me tell you that the reasons they released 3.0 wasnt for all the useful and long awaited features, it was also a MAJOR security update, though we have RedSn0w and Ultrasn0w i would wait another month or so to see how its going with other peoples iphones, and apple is bull shitting us, jailbreaking an Iphone doesent give anyone access to get into the AppStores servers, they are just telling the public what they want to hear, there have been reports already of bricked iphones, but easily fixed by restore, but there have not been reports on bricked 3.0 iphones, you might be safe, you might not be, im sure apple has dozens of jailbroken iphones just wondering how they can break them.

Try coherent sentences without comma abuse so we can follow your ideas if you don't mind. You talk about the kill switch and then it leads nowhere. And what does Apple having jailbroken iPhones just so they can "break" them mean? And since when has Apple told anyone anything specific about jailbreaking?
Why would Apple mind jail-broken iPhones? I mean, they already got paid for the phone by AT&T or however else the phone was purchased. Also, while they probably don't want to admit it, the ability to 'unlock' their hardware increases it's value meaning more $$$. Their biggest mistake was locking themselves into a single carrier.
