It's command line, run ffmpeg --help for a list of command or just use Handbrake if the command line is scary.

Looked up a tutorial. Tried it. Didn't work. I think I'll use handbrake.

try ffmpeg -i yourfile.whatever outputfile.mp4

I did that. It just reported that it couldn't find the file, even when I changed the name a bunch of times.
