Gun experts come here, I need help deciding on home defense weapons

I'll give you the low down without any story.
I want recommendations for home and personal defense armaments, preferably a handgun in case I'm not around and my old jewish mother has to defend herself (oy vey i had to schlep my toches home to get robbed my a fucocktun yutz).
For in the home, a shotgun with a light pellet-based load would be the best. Won't over-penetrate (most) walls so you don't have to worry about killing the person in the next room, but has decent enough stopping power.
Not sure about pistols.
If you are thinking about real guns, get what the above user said or a .22 caliber gun. Small rounds, doesn't require a license, rounds are cheap, and the gun itself only costs 130-280 dollars. Or you could just buy a pellet gun.
We need Bean-0 here
If your looking for a home defense gun an old lady can use, I'd recommend to avoid the handguns, they kick allot more than you would think especially if your untrained in the use of them, plus if you don't know what your doing you wouldn't be able to hit shit with it anyway, I'd recommend going out and getting a 12 ga. shotgun and loading it up with 7 1/2 shot, it doesn't kick that much, doesn't penetrate much, and you don't have to worry about being too accurate with it.
Get a mini-gun
It'll show those robbers who to fucking steal from.
Quick, get Bean-O.
p-90 personal defense HELL YEA!

Its a nice weapon
Glock 17. Best home defense choice. Quick, effective, concealable, and nice.
Glock 19s are nice. Very light, 9mm which is a nice round. Though it is pricey. If you want something cheaper, get the Ruger MK1 or 2
Hi-point 9mm is how I roll. A little ugly and heavy, but inexpensive and high quality.
Shotguns or pellot guns are usually the best for in-home protection. For handguns, probably a 9mm or a .22.
Yeah. I think a Ruger 22. pistol. It can kill by headshot, but otherwise it's good for getting them to get out of your house, and makes not much noise.
Just have Bean-O stand outside your house.

Most guns can kill via Headshot TBH, as long as the rounds you're using aren't meant for piercing.
(Take what I say with a grain of salt, I don't know shit)
A shotgun is the best for home defense and has the stopping power of a diamond wall.
Don't listen to anybody recommending a handgun.
Ever heard a Remington 870 rack? That alone tells whoever is in your house to get. the. fuck. out.
Pay a sumo wrestler to stay with you, if you know what I mean.

You're the guy that caused a shit storm about war crimes. That argument involved guns, be wary of what you say in here or it could happen again.
That was Leon.

You don't have a fucking clue to put it bluntly.
Take from someone whose asked practically all the questions under the sun.
You want something just in case.
Something that when the shit hits you can whip it out and be ready to fight the fucking hordes.
Shotguns are good but you cannot leave them constantly loaded 24/7. Why?
The spring in the tube WILL form a memory after so long. Now, if you check it weekly you should be fine. But for something that you can load up and just leave it in a drawer for years and not have to worry about the bullets sticking together or the spring in the magazine or tube whatever forming a memory, revolvers are the way to go on that.
.38 Special and .357 Magnum rounds are my two personal choices.
With .357 Magnum round you'll want a long barrel (4 or 5 inches). A short barrel with that round and the gun is going to kick like a steroid pumped pissed off mule and make one hell of a bang.
.38 Special doesn't pack the punch of a .357 but it's good deal more controllable.
Now I'm not pooping down shotties, they're amazing if you hear the would be robbers and have the time to load it up and be ready for supreme ass kicking action then by all means go for it. Just be aware that if you miss them entirely the collateral damage is going to be quite something. Especially with Buckshot or Sluggers.

Well put, sir.
I so want a .357 Magnum revolver, even more so after reading those excellent points.
You should probably get a low caliber Revolver.
Alot of people are saying shotguns because they spread and are supposidly good for those who can't aim well, this is not true. The spread of a shotgun is alot narrower than you see in games and movies, you are better off with a pistol.

Actually, he put it pretty well.
Kimber ultra CDP.
A nice compact .45 automatic pistol. Somewhat on the expensive end, but worth it.

two of these should do

Most guns can kill via any shot. If you are using a 9mm round, any shot to the chest, head, or lower torso usually staggers or even drops the target. Even if you have piercing rounds, any shot aimed at the upper torso has a very high chance of killing the target.
If the bullet hits the heart, lungs, throat, jugular vein, or brain, it's an almost guaranteed drop.

Ideally the situation won't result in gun-fire. A shotgun is much more intimidating than a handgun.

Keep in mind a .22 is what the mob used for headshots as it wouldn't leave an exit wound and would keep the mess to a minimum.
Supposedly. But then again they also "SUPPOSEDLY" cemented people's feet and had them sleep with the fishes.
.357 Snub nose
I would have to say if you want to go with a pistol, a magnum or colt .357 is your best shot.
It may be a bit bulky in the barrel, but what it lacks in aesthetics it more that makes up for in power.
Again, if you get such a high caliber weapon, it won't really make much of a difference against a soft, unarmoured target.
It would cripple the target a lot more if it was fired at their limbs, but as Lankist has stressed a lot, when you shoot at someone, you shoot to kill.
