Yeah, nvidia doesn't allow it, but AMD pretty much always has. I believe there was some success though with custom bioses to get 9800gtx+'s to SLI with GTS 250's.

Also AMD allows different cards to be crossfired, like a 7970GHz and 7950 can be, but it would just act like 2 7950's.

I remember you could fool SLI by flashing similar cards with the same firmware.

I had an 8800GT and 9800GT working in tandem years ago.

Yeah, Nvidia has a history of arbitrarily disabling SLI. AMD's cards might be rebrands, but at least they're not pulling bullshit like that,
